Base Class: Monk

Legends tell of some chosen warriors, who could see through magical darkness; hear enemies even from a mile away; tasted the poison from a meal, served on another plane of existence; feel the vibrations of a burrowing ant; and smell the blood of a target on the wind, like a hound. These are the warriors of the 'Way of the Senses'.

By honing all of their skills and refining every natural ability they can, these Monks are peerless, when it comes to refining every aspect of their bodies. They believe, that every experience is valuable, by virtue of challenging their senses. They will frequently thank a fallen enemy for a new type of pain, which they have never experienced before. Others become culinary experts and know the flavors of every spice of the multiverse.

These monks can be seen wearing especially thin and revealing clothes, to expose themselves to the sensation of the elements. Some, more radical members blind themselves to focus on their other senses. Others took away their own eyelids, so that not even their sleep would stop the training of their vision. And some, very esotheric members, train their sense of humor for their entire life.

Sharpened Senses

3rd-level Way of Senses feature

Through the years of training, you know how to use your sesnses. You gain proficiency in the Perception and Investigation skills. Additionally, you gain 40 Feet of Darkvision (this does not overwrite racial abilities, which supercede 40 ft.).

You may also choose two of these senses, you wish to study:

 

Feeling

When focussing on the training of your sense of feeling, you start to be able to distinguish the bodies of the healthy and the bodies of the sick. You gain half proficiency for the Medicine.

Hearing

You start your training by focussing on your hearing. Due to the many conversations you overheared from all accross the lands, you are able to speak two common languages of your choice.

Seeing

You start the training of your senses by focussing on your sight. After some training, you are able to focus your eyes on ojects, which are usually vailed by smoke, fog, or dim light. Lightly obscured areas do not impose disadvantages on Perception checks.

Smelling

You start your training by focussing on your sense of smell. Due to all of the smells you have experienced, you are able to reproduce some of them. You gain proficiency with Cook's Utensils and one other tool of your choosing.

Taste

Over your studies into the sense of taste, you know how it feels to have an empty stomache, as well as the feeling of being well fed. The number of day you can go without food has doubled. You do not need food for a number of days equal to your constitution modifier * 2 (a minimum of 2 days). If you exceed that limit, you gain one level of exaustion on every day you do not consume food.

Quickness of the Mind

3rd-level Way of Senses feature

Through the sharpness of your senses, your reactions have become much faster. If it is the noise of a swinging blade, the sensation of impending doom you feel on your skin, or the taste of blood in the air, quickly draing closer. You gain an additional reaction. You can also use 1 ki point to restore your reaction. This free action can be taken anytime, when your reactions of this turn are already taken. You can take this action three times per round (since you have two normal reactions right now, you have a maximum of five reactions). 

In addition, there are multiple new readctions availible to you. From the reactions listed here, you may only have access to three. You gain new choices on Level 6, 11 or 17. Once you reach these levels you can also alter the choices of this level. Note, that all of the following are reactions. And cannot be used as Actions, or Bonus Actions.

Enhanced Deflect missile

Your sense of touch has evolved to a level, that you are even able to grasp magicla projectiles. Your 'deflect missiles' reaction deflects spells as well as projectiles (Only spells, which have an attack roll such as eldrich blast).

Extra Attack

Using one ki point, you may attack an enemy with an unarmed strike. This reaction can only be taken upon an enemy ending their turn within 5ft. of you.

Flurry of Opportunity

With your reaction quickened you are now able to use some of the monk's abilities much faster. You may spend one ki point to do two unarmed strikes against the enemy as an attack of opportunity.

Greater evaisiveness

With sharpened senses, it is easier for you to avoid incoming attacks. You can spend one ki point to give an enemy, who is attacking you disadvantage on their attack roll.

Quickend Movements

You can spend one ki point to move your usual movement speed without triggering attacks of opportunity. Instead of using you movement, you can also hide. This reaction can only be taken upon an enemy ending their turn.

Quickened healing

Your senses do not only extend to the dangers around you. Your sense of touch allows you to determine the cause of an injury much quicker. You can use one ki point to gain 10 feet of movement and, additionally, do a medicine check, use a medicine kit, or administer a potion to an ally (can be used once per round). 

Specialized Sense

Level 6 Way of the Senses feature

At this point in your training, you will have to concentrate your studies on specific senses, you wish to master. From the following list you may choose 2 senses, you wish to hone:

Additionally you gain advantage on any perception check, made with the senses you chose.

Feeling

You can feel the vibrations of the ground beneath you. You gain tremor sense in a 30ft. radius.

Hearing

The proficiency with your ears gave you many abilities. Not the least of which is that you are now able to see without the use of your eyes. You gain "Bindsight" in a 30ft. radius.

Seeing

The training of your eyes continues. The caves, the caverns, or simply the dark of the nights, which challenged your vision before, gives you now a sense of familiarity. You gain darkvision up to 120 ft. You are able to see thruogh magical darkness.

Smelling

Your sense of smell is now so refined, that you are able to distinguish between certain smells in the air. The stench of goblins, or the wild scent of bears. You can also distinguish some scnets on the wind, if you have encountered them before.

You cannot be surprised by enemies. You are able to spend two ki points to locate a specific object, or creature, you have encountered before.  You can only locate the creature/object if it's within 1000 ft. of you. This action can only be performed once per day.

Taste

On your travels you encountered poison many times. Now, with your heightened sense of taste, you are able to detect it and steel your body before the poison can reach it. You gain resistance to poison and advantage on constitution saving throws against being poisoned.

Quickness of the body

6th-level Way of Senses feature

Your understanding of your own body has grown tremendously. You gain an additional reaction and gain additional options for the 'Quickness of the mind' feature. You can also change the options, you took on level three. You now have three reactions at the start of your turn, plus three reactions, that you are able to achieve with ki points (for a maximum of 6 reactions per turn).

From the following list, you can choose three options. You can change these options when reaching level 11 and 17. Note, that all of the following are reactions. And cannot be used as Actions, or Bonus Actions.

Anticipation

You know, your attacks outside of your usual turn have become more important. You can use one ki point. All of your attacks are at atvantage until the start of your turn (can be used once per round). 

Dodging Uncannily

When you concentrate, your movements become superhuman. Incomprehensible for the naked eye. With that speed you are able to evade great amounts of damage. Spending one ki point, when an attacker that you can see hits you with an attack, you can use your reaction to halve the attack’s damage against you (can be used twice per round).

Fierce Resistance

Through experience and training you started to gain resistance to certain spells, which normally take away your ability to react quickly. Your reactions are not completely taken away by the effects of spells (such as shocking grasp). Instead, you retain your normal amount of reactions, but can't gain additional reactions through the 'Quickness of the mind' feature.

Note that this is not a reation, you can use, but a kind of resistance.

Gentle Touch

Your touch can sense any wound on a body and how to restore it. You can spend one ki point. To all the healing you perform, you can add your proficiency modifier plus your monk level.

Steeling of the fists

You take a deep breath as you steel yourself for the challenge, which will await you soon. You can use one ki point.Until the beginning of your next turn, all of your attacks gain 1d8 points of damage. This can be used twice per round.

Vicious strike

With added experience and a hardened body. It is easier for you to identify, when an enemy tries to retreat and, how to cause him the most anount of damage. You can spend one ki point. A successful attack roll on an attack of opportunity will be regarded as a critical hit until the start of your next turn. This reaction has to be taken at the start of an enemies turn. You can only take it once per turn.

Honing of the Senses

11th-level Way of Senses features

You take another step in honing your senses to their most extreme. And once again, you decide to only focus on specific senses to further your training. From the following list, you may choose two options:

 

Feeling

On your journeys you have felt, the bodies of the healthy and the sick. The dying and the sleeping and you have learned to distinguish between them. You gain proficiancy in Medicine (if you are already proficient, you gain expertise). You can cast the spell 'Mage Hand'.

Hearing

Your ears have heared so many conversations, that you are able to hear lies without any problems. You gain proficiancy in Insight. You can use two ki points to cast the spell 'Magic Mouth'.

Seeing

Your eyes are now so trained, that you are able to see magical energy. You gain proficiancy in Arcana. You can use two ki points to cast the spell 'Identify'

Smelling

Your nose knows every smell of all the realms. Even with closed eyes, you are able to distinguish the contents of a room by smell alone. You gain Expertise in Investigation. You can cast the spell 'Druidcraft'.

Taste

Your tongue has tasted the air of so many different places, realms and dimensions, that you have leaned to know your surroundings based on just the taste of the air. You gain Expertise in Perception. You can use five ki points to cast the spell 'Hero's feast'.

Quickness of Spirit

11th-level Way of the Senses  feature

Your understanding of your own body has grown tremendously. You gain an additional reaction and gain additional options for the 'Quickness of the mind' feature. You can also change the options, you took on level three and six. You now have four reactions at the start of your turn, plus three reactions, that you are able to achieve with ki points (for a maximum of 7 reactions per turn).

From the following list, you can choose three options. You can change these options when reaching level 17. Note, that all of the following are reactions. And cannot be used as Actions, or Bonus Actions.

Guiding movements

Your bodies movements have become so refined, that they do not only carry your own atttacks, but also the attacks of your allies. When spending one ki point, you are able to give two allies within 40 ft. of you advantage on their next attack rolls.

Into the void

Your sense of touch has evolved beyond the limitations of a normal mortal. You know how to touch the air in a way,  that lets you become one with it. You can spend one ki point to move your usual movement speed without triggering attacks of opportunity. You also gain a flight speed of 40ft. Instead of using you movement, you can also hide. This reaction can only be taken upon an enemy ending their turn.

Refined abilities

Due to the quickness of your body, you can correct mistakes so quickly, some might not even notice, you made one to begin with. You can spend one ki point to reroll an ability check, attack roll, or saving throw. This is only unsable 5 times per long rest and can be used outside of combat.

Spell Counter

Your senses and movements have grown to a level, that they can even influence the magical weave, magicains use to cast their spells. With certain movements, you are even able to hinder the casting of a spell. You can use two ki points, if a creature is casting a spell within 60 ft. of you. If this creature is casting a spell of 3rd level or lower, its spell fails and has no effect. If it is casting a spell of 4th level or higher, make an ability check using your wisdom modifier. The DC equals 10 + the spell's level. On a success, the creature's spell fails and has no effect. You can spend more ki points to counter higher level spells (3 points for 4th level, 3 for 5th level etc.)

True Strike

Due to the great growth of your body, some actions, which required the mystical ki, don't use this recource anymore. You can use your reaction to strike an enemy (without using ki points), if an enemy ends their turn within 5 ft. of you.

Tuition

You quickened movements, your honed senses. This all now inspires your compaions. You can use one ki point to give an ally a reaction. They can use this reaction to move up to their normal movement, hide, or interact with an object.

Trencendant Senses

17th level Way of the Senses feature

The mastery over your senses has become apparent. Nothing can escape your perception anymore. Not even things vailed by magic, or the other planes. You think back to the legendary warriors, able to train their senses to a degree beyond human comprehension and you realize, you are one of them. 

You can use two ki points to gain truesight for two hours.

Quickness of the Soul

17th-level Way of Senses feature

The quickness you can achieve with your body might, to the normal person, look like magic, but your body simply trancended, what is humanly possible. Your techniques include ones, which haven't been touched by a mortal soul for thousands of years. You gain an additional reaction and gain additional options for the 'Quickness of the mind' feature. You can also change the options, you took on level three and six and eleven. You now have five reactions at the start of your turn, plus three reactions, that you are able to achieve with ki points (for a maximum of 8 reactions per turn).

From the following list, you can choose three options. Note, that all of the following are reactions. And cannot be used as Actions, or Bonus Actions.

Common sense

Your sensory abilities can inspire your allies to gain similar powers: You can spend two ki points to give all allies within 20 ft. of you an additional reaction. They can use this reaction to use their normal movement speed, interact with an object, hide, or attack one creature within 5ft. of them. They also gain and can untilize as their reaction a 40 ft. flying speed. You can only use this action after an enemy has finished their turn. You can only use this feature once per minute.

Displacement

On your journeys you came to know that there are energy fields, connecting you and any other creature. Through your training you are able to sense and manipulate these connections. You learned to switch places with someone, by reversing the fundamental energies between you. You can use two ki points. If a creature attacks you, you can switch places with another creature within 15 ft. of you of the size medium or smaller. The attacker will proceed to attack said enemy. This can only be used once per minute.

Pain Sense

You are able to sense harm done to your allies and know their bodies well enough, to closer their wounds with just a touch. You can spend three ki points and to do 4d8  points of healing to a creature within 5ft. of you. This feature is usable outside of combat.

Sensory Overload

You have complete mastery over your senses and are now able to sense all kinds of energy around you. All the energy from other planes, which to mortal senses is invisible, you can detect it and envelop your own hand in pure, radiant energy. When this devestating attack is used, the planar energies dispurse and you need a minute before they return to you.

By spending two ki points, you can envelope your punch in radiant energy. This unarmed attack deals 10d8 radiant damage to an enemy within 5ft. It can only be taken once per minute.  If the attack misses, the enemy takes half damage.

Situational Awareness

Your situational awareness has grown tremendously and a combatand turning their back to you is opportunity enough, to attack them repeatedly. You are always able to do two unarmed strikes against the enemy as an attack of opportunity (without spending ki points).

Unseen step

Your movement has become alien to normal movements. You alone can sense ways unseen by mortal eyes to move not with your feet, but purely by sensing the right way to go. You can spend two ki points and teleport to any unoccupied space within your movement range. You can only use this feature once per round. You can use this feature outside of combat.
