Base Class: Monk
A monk who takes this subclass has chosen to focus their training on a particular fighting style, and are rewarded for their dedication with a wide array of options to heighten their deadliness with the spear.
The Way of the Spear
Upon following this Monastic Tradition at level 3 your skill with the Spear has increased to the point that your weapon damage increases to 1d10 while wielding a spear in both hands. This increases to 1d12 at level 7, and 2d8 at level 11, and 3d8 at level 17.
Spear Versatility
You may choose to deal slashing, piercing, or bludgeoning damage with your spear attacks.
Spear Forms
At level 3, you gain the following Spear Forms listed below:
Yamārashi Form
While in this Spear Form you begin quick whirling motions with your spear, giving fewer options for enemies to attack you from. This provides a +1 Bonus to your AC.
Tora Form
While in this Spear Form your attacks have much more force behind them. This provides +3 to damage rolls.
Hoippu Form
While in this Spear Form you make attacks in wide arcs. This provides a +5 to the Melee attack range of your spear.
It requires a bonus action to begin, or switch between a Spear Forms and you must break form in order to use any movement.
Spear Defense
At level 3, when you are wearing no armor and wielding a spear with both hands, your AC is increased by 1.
Spear Fluidity
At level 3, you can spend 2 ki point to make an extra attack with your spear.
Spear Adept
At level 6, your spear attacks become more dangerous when augmented through your ki. You may select one of the following effects when you make an attack with a spear, expending 1 ki when doing so:
- Gain advantage on attack rolls.
- After making a successful attack on a target, you can, as a reaction make an immediate follow up attack against a creature adjacent to you. This uses your reaction.
- Force a hit creature of size large or smaller to make a Str save against your ki save DC. On a failure, the target is knocked prone and takes 1d8 bludgeoning damage.
- Force a hit creature to make a Str save against your ki save DC. On a failure, the target is knocked 15 feet away.
Spear of Destiny
At level 6, any melee attack made with a spear is considered magical for the purposes of overcoming resistances and immunities.
Whirlwind Attack
At level 11, You can use your action to make a number of melee attacks against any creatures within range of you, with a separate attack roll for each target, up to your proficiency bonus or your Wisdom modifier (whichever is higher). This ability costs 2 ki points.
One with the Spear
At level 17, when you are hit by a melee attack, you may use your reaction to spend 2 ki points and reduce the damage by 1d10 + your Dexterity modifier + your Monk Level. If you reduce the damage of the attack to 0, as part of the same reaction you may make a spear attack against the attacker if you are within range.
You may also add your wisdom modifier to damage rolls made with spears.

Posted Jan 31, 2021I've also struggled with changing the dice type of homebrew stuff, if you find that the custom weapon seems to work, let me know!

Posted Jan 30, 2021Will you be adding in the weapon (spear) damage modifiers (1d10 to 1d12 to 2d8 to 3d8) to the class per the specific levels named? I can't figure out how to get those stats to change using a regular spear. I'm gonna try making a special "Way of the Spear" Spear & see if that will do it. Thanks :)
