Base Class: Fighter
"The shadowy blade is a technique not oft used... Some have mastered it and are fearsome opponents but they never do stick around. Be careful around them... their blades only get stronger with each kill." -The Tome of Forgotten Knowledge, Page 114
Reapers are fearsome warriors who use shadow to damage their opponents. With mysterious weapons seemingly made of their opponent's fears, they control large crowds and increase their power. Many a soul has died to one, and once a soul is lost, it can never return. The Reapers capture these souls inside of their body, which gives them much strength.
Not much is known about the Reaper association, as any who has lived one of their massacres dis just as soon as they escape. The reason for this is not known, but scholars have been pouring over ancient texts trying to learn how this is possible.
Time's Up
You gain this feature when you choose this subclass, or at 3rd level. When you make an attack, roll a d6. On a 1-5, you implant the curse onto the person which you attacked. If you are not killed within 10 rounds, the person whom you have cursed must take 20d10 necrotic damage. On a 6, you gain temporary hit points equal to the amount your foe has and gain one point of exhaustion per turn. Once you have 4 points, you must wait until you finish a long rest to use this feature.
Progression
This feature is unlocked at 7th level. For each kill your team gets, you earn one point. The list below shows you how progression works.
1-5 Points: Time's Up is decreased from 10 rounds to 8 rounds.
5-10 Points: You gain the phase ability listed below. You gain temporary hit points equal to half your current hit points.
10-20 Points: You gain wings and have a flying speed of 60 ft. Time's Up is decreased from 8 rounds to 5 rounds.
20-50 Points: You gain the Time Stop ability listed below.
50-100 Points: You are immune to piercing, slashing, bludgeoning, necrotic, and radiant damage. Your flying speed increases to 120 ft.
100-250 Points: You gain temporary hit points equal to twice your current hit points.
250+ : 011100100111010101101110 011100100111010101101110 011100100111010101101110 011100100111010101101110 011100100111010101101110 011100100111010101101110 011100100111010101101110
Phase- You can take an action to enter phase mode. In phase mode, you are immune to all damage and have 2x walking speed. In addition, you can move through solid objects. However, you cannot attack, and each round you spend in this you take 2d10 points of damage.
Time Stop- You stop time for 1 round. You can choose creatures to be allowed to move in this time stop. If they can move, they are blind and take 5d10 necrotic damage per turn. Or, you can put the Time's Up effect on them instead.
Physical Progression-
1-5: Your head becomes developed in shadow.
5-10: Your eyes glow red.
10-20: Your entire body is enveloped in darkness. Plus, you gain glowing red wings.
20-50: You gain a ticking red clock behind you. Each turn, the clock pulsates, healing you for 5 hp. This is only active before you use Time Stop.
50-100: You start to float above the ground a bit.
100-250: The One Above All. Multiple clocks surround you, and they all go off at the same time (Every round)
250+ : 011100100111010101101110011100100111010101101110011100100111010101101110011100100111010101101110011100100111010101101110
*011100100111010101101110 translates to RUN in binary
**Kills stack, they do not have to be in the same fight to add to your total points.
Time's Up Improvement
You gain this feature at 10th level. When someone is under your Time's Up, they are blinded for the duration of the effect. The only thing that they can see is you, and all they can attack is you. In addition, they disappear from view and appear only to you. Walls are outlined by white, so they don't run into those, and they are immune to all damage except from you. You can only have this special Time's Up on one monster at a time.
Shadow Blades
This feature is unlocked at 15th level. You gain shadowy blades pulsating around you. If a enemy makes a melee attack, they take 2d8 necrotic damage. If they make a ranged attack, the ammunition used crumbles into dust. You still take the damage, though. As an action, you can move the blades up to 60 ft. away from you. This can still bestow Time's Up. The blades each do 2d8 necrotic damage, but at 250+, they deal 10d8 damage.
Memento Mori
"Life itself is a miracle. You are precious. You are important. Please, live the best you can... My most beloved friends." -Koyoharu Goutage, Demon Slayer volume 23.
You gain this feature at 18th level. After killing many dangerous people, the world is now a better place. You thus gain the following features:
Divine Judgement: You can call upon the strengths of the gods to judge those who have wronged. Check a person's alingment. If it is Evil, they plunge into hell below and take 10d10 fire damage. If it is neutural, nothing happens. If it is Good, then they gain 10d10 temporary hit points.
Touch of Life: You can use this as a bonus action. Anyone you touch for the bonus action is fully healed, or if they are dead, are revived to 1/4 of their max hp.

Posted May 18, 2025Thats actually a really good point, if they roll a six, they die in six turns

Posted May 18, 2025This is a pretty cool idea, but fairly unbalanced. It would be cool if was more balanced, for example, making times up gained at level 5, and of its 1-3 then the actual effect happens, if its 4-6 then you get 3 levels of exhaustion and take 5d6 necrotic damage, but it would need even more balancing

Posted Apr 29, 2024this sounds like a good subclass but i would just run it as a race also does anyone have any ideas for a fully new race or class like toonkind or nightmare?

Posted Apr 22, 2024I feel that, as it is written, I'd let a player run this :)
Keep in mind that there is no mention in Time's Up of a condition for the exhaustion to cease increasing every 6 seconds. Thus, a character with this subclass has a one in six chance to kill itself every time it attacks.
The features for other levels - although completely bonkers - are irrelevant as any character of this subclass will never live past level 3.
This really embodies the "Live fast, die young" mentality of reapers.
Approved.
