Monk
Base Class: Monk

Those who practice The Way Of The Earth Song hear the ebb and flow of the aether within the ground, and manipulate this aether into techniques which boost their martial arts prowess. The Way Of The Earth Song was adapted from the dwarven martial art of Terlar, honed by the Silverbeard Clan who live deep within the volcanic Hoseki Mountains, far to the north of Jakuna. Once a closely guarded secret, those who have proven themselves worthy of the journey have travelled to this region and studied under the Silverbeards. Some of these travellers became masters of the style in their own right, and passed the techniques to students of theirs.

Those who practice The Way Of The Earth Song beseech the earth itself to aid them in combat, calling out to it with their Aether, with the Aether hidden dormant in the world responding in kind. There are many techniques (otherwise called verses) that employers of this martial art can use to decimate an opponent. They can make the ground unsteady, or even crack it. They can create and launch boulders with their Aether, or even raise stone to shield themselves.

First Verse: Steady Foot

When you gain this feature at level 3, you gain the following benefits:

  • Your movement speed is no longer affected by non-magical difficult terrain.
  • You have advantage when you roll to escape from a grapple.

Second Verse: Rolling Boulder

At 3rd level, you are able to call heavy boulders from the earth to make your attacks more potent. When you take the attack action on your turn, you can replace one of your attacks with the ability to summon a large rock, which you can launch as part of the same attack, in a 30ft line in front of you. A creature struck by the boulder must make a strength saving throw against your ki save DC, taking magical bludgeoning damage equal to two rolls of your martial arts die on a fail, as well as being knocked prone. A target will take half damage on a success and will not be knocked prone. For each consecutive creature hit by the rock, one of your martial arts die will be taken away from the damage roll.

At 11th level, the initial damage of the rock will equal three rolls of your martial arts die, and at 17th level, the penalty for hitting additional opponents will no longer apply.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest. If you have no uses remaining, you can spend 2 Ki Points to use the feature again.

Third Verse: Quaking Leap

At 6th level, if you use at least half of your base movement to perform a jump, or you fall from a height equal to half your movement speed, you can create an area of difficult terrain (which you are not affected by) in a 10ft radius around you.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and regain all expended uses upon completion of a long rest.

Fourth Verse: Tremoring Step

At 11th level, when you use your step of the wind feature, you gain the following benefits:

  • If you travel at least half your base movement speed towards a creature while step of the wind is active, you can force any creature you choose 5ft from yourself to make a strength saving throw, or be knocked prone.
  • If you travel at least half your base movement speed while step of the wind is active, you gain extra A/C equal to your wisdom modifier as rock and detritus melds to your body. This rocky shield lasts until you are hit by an attack roll, after which the rocks fall to the ground, and you return to your base A/C. The rocks will also fall away at the start of your next turn.

You can augment your step of the wind like this a number of times equal to your proficiency modifier per long rest.

Fifth Verse: Song Of The World

At 17th level, you gain a mastery over your own style of The Way Of The Earth Song, granting you the following abilities:

  • Shattering Leap. When you use your Quaking Leap feature, you may spend a ki point to double the area of effect.
  • Tremorsense. You gain tremorsense out to 10ft. This means that you are sensitive to vibrations of the ground within 10ft of you, and can pinpoint anything in contact with the ground within that radius.
  • Solid Deflection. When you use your Deflect Missiles feature, you can spend an extra ki point to gain a bonus equal to one additional roll of your martial arts die, and can now also deflect spell attacks.
  • Barrage Of Blows. When you use your Flurry Of Blows feature, you can spend an extra ki point to add one more unarmed attack to that feature.
