Monk
Base Class: Monk

Following the teachings of the world-renowned twin sisters for which the order is named, Way of the Twin Thunders monks can study philosophy and the world around them for years, even decades, before achieving true mastery. The Way of the Twin Thunders monks' fighting technique involves lightning-fast, accurate movements that can severely damage or immobilize an enemy. When one can perfectly balance their ki, they can channel the destructive power of the heavens.

At higher levels, a Twin Thunders monk can channel ki from the very air around them into devastating lightning abilities.

Technique of the Twins

Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, your intense training has allowed you to channel your ki in new and devastating ways, as the Thunder Twins once did. You gain the following benefits:

  • As part of your Flurry of Blows, you can cause whirling gusts of tempest air to briefly surround you. Doing so allows you to fly up to 10 feet without provoking opportunity attacks.

  • As a reaction to an enemy making an attack against you, you can spend 1 ki point to make a lightning-fast unarmed strike against the attacker, provided they are within range. This unarmed attack deals lightning damage, instead of bludgeoning.

  • Whenever you make a ranged attack using a missile caught with Deflect Missiles, you can accelerate it with your mastery of the winds. Add one extra martial arts die to the damage total. This extra die deals lightning damage, instead of the missile's original damage type.

Lightning Tendril Form

At 6th level, you have mastered a new fighting form, channeling your ki into crackling lightning bolts that you can use to strike enemies from a distance.

When you use the attack action on your turn, you can cause tendrils of lightning to flicker from your fists and feet. Your melee reach increases out to 20 feet for that action, as well as the rest of the turn. A hit with these attacks deals lightning damage instead of bludgeoning damage.

Thunder Fist Strike

At 11th level, you gain the ability to focus the ki within your stunning strikes into a deadly, thundering impact.

As part of a stunning strike, you can choose to spend 1 additional ki point (for a total of 2 ki points per Thunder Fist Strike) to deal an additional 2d8 thunder damage, halved if the target succeeds on the Constitution saving throw for Stunning Strike. This strike also creates a booming noise that can be heard up to 300 ft. away.

Thunder Twin's Fury

At 17th level, your mastery of the Way of the Twin Thunders allows you to channel the rage and power of the Thunder Twins themselves for a brief period. You can spend 8 ki points to create an elemental shroud of thunderclouds around yourself for 1 minute.

While others have difficulty penetrating it, you have no difficulty seeing or attacking through the shroud. This dark and dangerous localized storm grants you the following benefits for the duration:

  • Enemies have disadvantage on any attacks against you.

  • You deal maximum dice damage on any thunder or lightning damage.

  • You can double the flight distance gained from Technique of the Twins, for a total of 20 feet.

  • You gain an extra three Flurry of Blows attacks (for a total of five) provided that all of your attacks are against the same target.

You can choose to end the effect early, channeling the storm into a culmination of devastating natural power in a direction you choose. You mimic the effects of casting the Lightning Bolt spell, using no components. Its damage is also maximized.

In addition to the ki cost, You may only channel the Thunder Twin's Fury once per long rest.
