Base Class: Monk
Curiously, the Way of the Dragon Turtle is a bit of a misnomer for the monks that follow this style. Their link to the legendary beasts is practically nonexistent, only dubbed this way by others for their fortitude and control over heat and steam. Monks that follow this martial style are rarely taught formally, though they may occasionally take on no more than a few students who wish to learn the style. Those who follow the Way of the Dragon Turtle are self-made and remarkable, often gaining an innate understanding of the ki flowing through and around them after overcoming intense hardship. Although this style may seem less refined than its contemporaries, the technical ability of these monks is fatal to underestimate. They pose as much of a threat to their own bodies by manipulating pressure and heat as they do to others, and they must always understand their limits above all else.
Ki-Scorched Body
Perseverance manifested in the form of raw ki has scorched and hardened your soul and body. When calculating your Monk unarmored defense, you may instead use 13 + your Constitution modifier.
Additionally, your body is altered by the unrefined, explosive ki you harness, often leaving a strange mark on your likeness. You determine its appearance, or generate it randomly by rolling on the Ki-Scorched Characteristic table.
| d6 | Ki-Scorched Characteristic |
|---|---|
| 1 | Your hands and feet are blackened, giving them the appearance of charcoal. |
| 2 | Steam often rises from your ears, mouth and body when you experience intense emotions. |
| 3 | The skin around your elbows and shoulders is cracked and ossified, peeling slightly upward like the scutes of a turtle. |
| 4 | You have a large scar or burn mark on your body, which becomes searing hot in a fight. |
| 5 | Still sources of waters nearby you tend to become restless, showing tiny ripples and tremors. |
| 6 | Your skin fluctuates between feeling extremely hot and cold to the touch. |
Impact Combustion
Your rudimentary abilities in channeling ki allow you to compress and expel moisture and heat. As an action, you can cast fog cloud without providing material components. Once you cast fog cloud using this feature, you can't do so again until you finish a short or long rest, unless you spend 2 ki points to cast it again.
Additionally, you gain the ability to convert the heat and force from blows you take into powerful outbursts. As a bonus action, if you have taken damage between the end of your last turn and the start of your current turn, you may spend 1 ki point to enter the Combustion state until the end of your turn. While in the Combustion state, you gain the following benefits:
- You make Strength-based attack rolls with advantage.
- Your unarmed strikes deal additional fire damage on a hit equal to one roll of your Martial Arts die plus your Wisdom modifier.
- You can make one additional unarmed strike as part of your Attack action.
Pneumatic Blitz
At 6th level, you gain the ability to catalyze the heat and momentum you build by moving into a volatile enhancement. If you move at least 30 feet in a straight line on your turn, you may immediately spend 2 ki points to increase your walking speed by 30 feet until the end of your turn. If you continue the current movement for at least 60 feet in a straight line, you may choose to emit a blast of excess pressure around you. When you end this movement, each creature within a 10-foot radius of you must succeed on a Strength saving throw or take a number of d10s equal to your proficiency bonus in force damage and be knocked prone. If a creature passes this saving throw, it takes half damage and is not knocked prone.
Body of Vapor
At 11th level, your control of ki becomes more refined, allowing you to manipulate the elements of your physical form. As an action, you can spend 4 ki points to cast gaseous form on yourself, without providing material components. While in this form, your movement speed is not restricted to 10 feet.
Additionally, you may exit this form at any time on your turn. When you exit this form, you may heal 5d8 hit points. Once you regain hit points using this ability, you can't do so again until you finish a short or long rest.
Pressurized Retribution
At 17th level, your mastery over the convergence and direction of ki reaches explosive heights. As a reaction to taking damage from a source other than yourself, you may spend up to six ki points. For each ki point you spend as a part of this reaction, you mitigate 5 damage. This damage mitigation is applied before any resistances you have. You may also redirect the force from this mitigated damage, blasting out a 40-foot cone of crushing steam. Creatures in this area must pass a Constitution saving throw against your ki save DC or take 10 fire damage for each ki point you spent as part of this reaction, taking half damage if they pass. Being underwater does not grant resistance to this attack.
Additionally, you are no longer required to have taken damage to enter the Combustion state as a bonus action.
