Wizard
Base Class: Wizard

Early in your studies you learned that your academic skills are not as good as you thought they were, instead preferring to learn via practical applications and experience rather than intense study.

Academic Hardship

You are unable to copy spells from scrolls or other sources into your Spellbook unless that spell is of a level less than or equal to half of your Proficiency Bonus (rounded down).

Ritual Expert

You may cast Ritual Spells without cast time both inside and outside of combat as long as you have performed that ritual or you have observed someone else perform that ritual outside of combat at least once prior.

Spell Steal

Starting at 6th level you learn Counterspell if you did not know it already, also Counterspell is always prepared and does not count towards your maximum prepared spells. Whenever you successfully counter a spell with a level lower than or equal to your Proficiency Modifier using Counterspell you can choose to temporarily steal that spell, allowing you to cast it as if it was one of your prepared spells until the next Long Rest. During that Long Rest you may spend two hours permanently scribing that stolen spell into your Spellbook (following the rules as described in the "Your Spellbook" sidebar of the PHB. page 114). The stolen spell does not need to belong to the Wizard spell list. You may only have one temporarily stolen spell at a time, stealing a new spell replaces the old spell.

Magical Instinct

Starting at 10th level you gain expertise in Arcana and as a reaction you can intuit the magical abilities of any creature that you succeed a "DC 10 + creature's CR (rounded down)" Arcana check against. If the creature originates from the same plane as you you have advantage on this check. On a success you learn the full list of spells and cantrips that that creature has prepared and how many spell slots of each level it has available (if any). After using Magical Instinct on a creature you must Long Rest before you can use it again on the same individual creature (but you may still use it on other creatures).

Magical Savant

Starting at 14th level, once per Long Rest as a reaction whenever a creature uses their action to activate a magical effect (except a spell or cantrip) you can steal that magical effect until your next Long Rest, allowing you to cast it as if it was one of your prepared spells. Your Dungeon Master decides which effects count as magical and which spell slot level is required to cast it.
