Bard
Base Class: Bard

The bardic College of Fools teaches the subtle art of the idiot savant - One who appears entirely incompetent at first glance, but is in reality controlling the entire flow of the battle. Bards of this college appear awkward, goofy, and odd. Make no mistake though, the only fool is the one who underestimates these dangerous artists.

Slapstick Dodge

When you join the College of Fools at 3rd level, you learn how to use your heightened reflexes juxtaposed with your seemingly bumbling nature to make unpredictable movements, allowing you to avoid attacks in chaotic, and apparently accidental ways.

You gain Proficiency in Performance. As a reaction, whenever you would take damage, you may expend and roll one of your Inspiration Dice. You may then reduce the damage you would have taken by the resulting roll plus your Bard level.

Whenever a hostile creature misses an attack against you and/or you reduce damage to zero or less using your Slapstick Dodge, you may redirect the damage/attack to another creature within 10 feet of you or cause the hostile creature to accidentally injure themselves by the amount of damage that you would have taken.

Successful Failure

Starting at 3rd level, you sometimes purposefully fail actions in order to gain an unconventional upper hand. Whenever you would roll the minimum value for a roll (such as a natural 1) you may expend an Inspiration Die to use your goofy mannerisms to turn that roll into a maximum roll (or natural 20) instead, although this success will come in a much more roundabout way. In addition, whenever a hostile creature critically fails when attempting to hit you, your next attack roll is an automatic critical success.

Catastrophic Failure

At 6th level, your fighting style is nothing short of a full-on comedy performance, leaving your enemies perplexed and caught off guard. You are a master at pretending to be inept, while in reality you may be the most dangerous person on the battlefield. Whenever a hostile creature misses an attack against you, and/or your Slapstick Dodge lowers the damage to zero or lower, you may have a random chaotic effect befall that foe. Roll 1d6 and select from the following table to see which disaster occurs.

  1. The creature bursts into flames, taking 2d12 fire damage.
  2. The creature falls face-first, landing prone and taking 1d6 bludgeoning damage.
  3. The creature fails in such a remarkably comedic way that you grant Bardic Inspiration to a creature of your choice within 60 feet that can see you.
  4. The creature's Armor Class is lowered by 1d4 points until the end of your next turn.
  5. The creature becomes blinded until the end of your next turn and must use at least 15 feet of their movement on their turn to move in a random direction (determined by rolling 1d8).
  6.  The creature must make a Charisma save against your spell DC or it turns into a weasel for 1 minute or until it takes damage.

A creature can suffer a catastrophic failure only once per turn.

Walking Disaster

At 14th level, your mastery of subtle quirky sabotage brings unexpected disaster to your enemies. Whenever you roll your Inspiration Die for the damage reduction of your Slapstick Dodge feature, add your Proficiency bonus to the total damage reduced.

When you redirect damage or cause a creature to damage themselves through the Slapstick Dodge feature, the damage they deal is increased by the resulting roll of your Inspiration Die, and the damage is the same as the original damage source.
