Base Class: Fighter
Deep within the Fugue plane there is the city of judgement, if you climb all the way to the top of the crystal spire, first of all you would anger Jergal and Kelemvor, but second of all you might be able to see it, in the distance not so far from the great city but far enough that you can only make out its shadow, is the field of fallen swords, a sacred and a sad place, stretching almost endlessly across the valleys and hills are hundreds and thousands of swords, blades down, hilts up, these are the swords of the greatest fighters that Toril, and dare i say all the planes, had ever seen, but that is all that remains of them, no names, no titles not even a description remains of them, there deeds, there hopes and dreams and aspirations are all gone, i would say they are dust but i doubt even that would remain, its gone, all they were, all they fought, its all gone and only there swords remain and with them the remnants of there fighting spirit, these remnants hold power, they hold strength that those of great heart may yet still grasp onto.
These fighters call themselves the Domain wardens, they wield as there own the latent power within these swords seeking not to become masters of any particular style of swordsmanship and instead seek to become there swords in body and spirit, and by studying the remnant souls of these old blades they hope to understand how to become one with the sword.
They practice a school of swordsmanship known by many names, the infinite but one sword, the sword of a hundred faces, the true sword, the path of the sword soul, but most commonly it is known as "The Sword Wind", the school teaches not using one or even two but a countless hundred swords scattered around the warrior allowing you to attack from unexpected angles and points in ways unimaginable by any who do not practice it with the ultimate goal of the school to reach a level of understanding and familiarity with there chosen weapon unrivalled by any other and in a sense, much like the blades within the field of fallen swords, imprint there very being onto there blade and become one.. with their sword.
Aye Siwmae and good day to you, if your reading this then my thanks to you, you bothered to sift through the madness and payed some attention to this random idea i had, many thanks and respects, this whole subclass was a random idea me and a buddy had in one particularly drunken voice call so if its not of great quality i'm sorry and i'm grateful you even bothered to look at this mess i have made, a few things to note, One i don't know how to add a resource system into the DnD beyond subclass maker, maybe i'm just stupid or maybe its because i'm a scrooge and haven't bought any books and therefore do not have access to it either or its whatever you will have to manually keep track on pen and paper or something my sincere apologies, Two is that i don't know how to remove modifiers on attacks, or if its even possible, unfortunately that means anyone who's using un-awakened blindside attack will have to subtract the modifier themselves, once again, my sincere apologies. Other questions you may have, Yes this is an anime reference, due to DnD beyond guidelines i can't say what but if you know then you know (for you see people die when they are killed), however in writing the lore it really ended up becoming its own thing so if your all "cringe anime" you can ignore it for the most part thanks to my excellent writing skills if i may be allowed to gloat a little bit. No it doesn't have to be swords but the damage remains the same so if you want your ring of swords to be Axes or something you can do that, go full viking with it and have a ring of spears and shields it will be cool. Technically speaking when you establish domain at level 15 and above it would count as you temporarily creating a pocket of the Fugue plane within the domain, whatever cosmological problems or lore issues this may arise is up to your own discretion. The field of fallen swords (the realm within the fugue plane itself not your domain) classifies as one gigantic domain that any domain warden can use, could make a cool set piece especially if someone activates sword wind. Finally if your looking for multiclass options with a little bit of spice and can make some lore sense try Bladesinger and Hexblade as both are about achieving a sense of martial perfection and swordplay, especially Hexblade as the main thing about the Domain wardens is they seek to become one with there swords so in an essence there swords slowly gaining a semblance of sentience and power as the Warden grows in skill kinda makes sense. Thank you for taking the time out of your precious day to look at my little project, if i'm ever bored I may make another subclass someday but don't get your hopes up i know i'm not, have a good day and please enjoy what i have made for you, Signed Sincerely - Lorde Bellathar.
The Domain of fallen swords
The domain warden has gained access through methods unknown (he could have learned of it from another domain warden, had visited the domain itself in a dream, be told of its existence by a cleric of Kelemvor/scribe of Jergal or discovered the secrets from ancients texts within ancient human ruins) a sacred place within the fugue plane known as the field of fallen swords, a place reminiscent of a battlefield, across long rolling hills and valleys hundreds upon thousands of battered and worn swords with there blades buried in the dirt and there hilts raised to the sky, these swords hold the remnants of the righteous fighting spirits of fighters of ages pass long since defeated, there names forgotten and there deeds now dust in the night all that remains is there swords and the might of there hearts.
As an action the domain warden may place within a 10 feet radius of himself a ring of swords (whether the swords are real and he had on him or are directly summoned from the field of fallen swords is up to the player) this costs one domain charge, whenever a hostile or perceived to be hostile creature enters the ring its provokes an opportunity attack, you can hit them no matter where you are in the ring as long as you are also in the ring, additionally, domain wardens have advantage on attacking any creature within the ring, as an action the domain warden can redeploy the ring around him again after moving, this does not take a domain charge but you must have the ring deployed first.
You know the presence of anyone who enters the ring, even if they are invisible, you can attack them as normal but do not gain advantage nor disadvantage.
You have Three domain charges and gain one additional domain charge at levels 7,10,15 up to a maximum of six domain charges.
The domain lasts for one minute (ten rounds) but can be extended by expending another domain charge.
You can use the swords within the ring to perform a dual wielding attack and it functions the same way, takes a bonus action, it does 1d8 damage.
At levels 7,10,15 the radius increase by 5 feet. (at max level the radius should be 25 feet).
The Sword Wind
Upon use of a domain charge not redeploying (cannot activate sword wind and redeploy in the same turn) and requiring concentration the swords within the ring seem to spring to life, the entire radius of the domain now acts as if it where the 2nd level spell cloud of daggers. as an action you can move the cloud anywhere within 30ft away from the domain warden, the sword wind lasts for 1 minute (ten turns) and cannot be extended.
Awakened spirit, Becoming the sword
Starting at 10th level the swords within the ring now do 1d10 plus strength/dex (not both) and are all considered magic weapons.
Additionally you can use a bonus action one per domain for free to summon forth from the field of fallen swords a spectral blade, this floating sword counts as if it where the spell spiritual weapon but uses Strength/Dex (not both) as opposed to wisdom.
Inescapable Domain
The Domain of fallen swords now classifies as difficult terrain. Additionally every 5ft the target moves within the domain they take the damage of your modifier (if you have plus 5 strength they take 5 damage every 5ft moved) both effects still apply when the target is in storm wind.
The cage of fallen swords
As free action given after activating action surge the domain warden can cast on anything is sees the cage of fallen swords, a multitude of swords summoned from the field of fallen swords appear and pierce into your target restraining them.
(for all intensive purposes the cage functions the same as the spell hold person/monster with a dc of ten plus strength/dex ((not both)) and gives all the same benefits as the spell with the exception of needing concentration)
