The Planar Wanderer subclass allows Fighters to explore the mystical and expansive nature of the multiverse, blending martial prowess with a deep connection to the cosmic forces that govern reality. This subclass not only enhances combat capabilities but also provides ample opportunity for rich storytelling and character development within your D&D campaign.

Level 3: Planar Affinity

When you choose this subclass at 3rd level, you gain a connection to a specific plane of existence that influences your combat style and abilities. Choose one of the following planes, which grants you additional features:

The Elemental Planes

  • Choose one element (Fire, Water, Earth, or Air). You gain resistance to that element's damage type. Additionally, when you hit a creature with a weapon attack, you can choose to deal an additional 1d4 damage of the chosen element type.

The Feywild

  • You gain advantage on saving throws against being charmed. You can use your bonus action to teleport up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space you can see, but you must be in an area of natural beauty, like a forest or glade.

The Shadowfell

You gain proficiency in Stealth. Additionally, when you are in dim light or darkness, you can take the Hide action as a bonus action.

Level 3: Ethereal Strike

At 3rd level, your strikes resonate with the energies of the planes. When you hit a creature with a weapon attack, you can expend a superiority die to deal extra damage equal to the number rolled. Additionally, if the attack reduces the target to 0 hit points, you can teleport to an unoccupied space within 10 feet of the target.

Level 7: Dimensional Step

Beginning at 7th level, you learn to step between the planes with greater ease. You can use your action to cast the Misty Step spell without expending a spell slot. You can use this ability a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus and regain all expended uses after finishing a long rest. Additionally, you can use this ability as a reaction when you are hit by an attack to teleport to an unoccupied space within 30 feet of you.

Level 10: Plane Walker’s Resilience

At 10th level, your exposure to various planes grants you greater resilience. You gain proficiency in saving throws against being frightened or paralyzed. Additionally, when you succeed on a saving throw against a spell or effect, you can choose to become immune to that effect for 1 minute.

Level 15: Transcend Reality

By 15th level, you have learned to manipulate the battlefield in ways that confuse and disorient your foes. When you use your Action Surge, you can force all creatures of your choice within 30 feet of you to make a Wisdom saving throw against your Fighter spell save DC. On a failed save, the creature is incapacitated until the end of your next turn as they become disoriented by the shifting realities around them.

Level 18: Planar Mastery

At 18th level, you become a true master of the planes. You gain the following benefits:

  • You can use your Ethereal Strike feature twice per turn, as long as both attacks target the same creature.
  • You can cast the Plane Shift spell without expending a spell slot or requiring material components. You must finish a long rest before you can do so again.
  • You gain immunity to the effects of the planes you are affiliated with through your Planar Affinity feature.
