Base Class: Monk
Monks of the Way of the Ascendent Spear are martial masters and true warriors. Dedicating themselves to the mastery of one of the sentient races oldest weapons, the spear.
The Way of the Spear
As a monk dedicated to using a spear, when you take this subclass at 3rd level you have learned how to use every part of your weapon as efficiently as possible. When you deal damage with your spear you may choose to deal either bludgeoning or slashing damage as opposed to piercing.
Ascendent Spear Stances
As a monk dedicated to the Way of the Ascendent Spear when you take this subclass at 3rd level you gain the following stances:
Whirlwind Stance: After taking the attack action on your turn you can spend 1 Ki point to spin your spear around yourself and push enemies away from you. Enemies within your melee range are pushed 5ft. back and must succeed a DC 12 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.
Piercing Stance: Before taking the attack action you can spend 1 Ki point to enter piercing stance. When you take the attack action while in piercing stance, you deal half damage to all enemies in a 15ft. line behind the enemy you attacked.
Lockdown Stance: At the end of your turn you may spend 1 Ki point and your reaction to "lockdown" an enemy within 5ft. of you. An enemy that is locked down has their movement speed set to zero and cannot be magically teleported/moved, they also gain disadvantage on DEX saving throws. This lockdown lasts until the start of your next turn.
Ki-Empowered Spear
Starting at 6th level, you coat your spear in a thin layer of Ki. Your spear now counts as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage. Additionally, while wielding a spear in both hands its damage die is increased to 1d10.
Ascendent Spear Defense
At 11th level you become one with your spear on a truly ascendent level. When you get hit by an attack you may spend your reaction to reduce the damage taken by a roll of your spear damage die + your DEX modifier. If you reduce the damage of the attack to less then half the total damage, you can spend 1 Ki point to make a spear attack with advantage against the attacker if you are within range.
Ascendent Strike
At 17th level you learn to pour all your knowledge of spear techniques into one strike. At the cost of half your Ki points (rounded up) you may make a singular super powered strike. This strike is made in melee and will always hit and deal critical damage, in addition it deals bonus force damage equal to your WIS modifier x your DEX modifier. After you have dealt this strike you gain 1 point of exhaustion and become paralyzed until the end of your next turn.
