Base Class: Bard
Bards of the College of Remembrance travel through town and country, carrying along with them the memories and the stories of their family, friends, or anyone else they once had a close bond with. From those no longer physically around, these bards can pull upon their memories to offer words of warning, parting advice, or even a backing chorus. These memories are fleeting, however, and can only be strained so much or risk forever severing the connection.
Remembrance Conductor
At 3rd level, you gain a number of remembrance specters equal to your proficiency bonus. These specters are semi-translucent, ghostly visages of someone who is no longer physically present within your life, usually one that was personally important or shared valuable stories or insight that float around you. You can choose to ignore a specter to cause it to vanish. These specters can be made visible to everyone or just yourself.
These remembrance specters provide you with snippets of personal experiences, parting them to you when you call for a story, granting you the following benefits:
- When you make a Charisma check, you can expend a specter to gain advantage on the roll.
- When you fail a death saving throw, you can expend a specter to succeed instead.
- When you make a skill check with a skill you aren't proficient in, you can expend a specter to gain a bonus equal to a roll of your bardic inspiration die.
When a specter is expended, its appearance becomes visible to everyone and speaks with you if it you're speaking. You regain all expended specters when you finish a long rest.
Maestro’s Focus
Also at 3rd level, while you have at least one eldritch head remaining, you can’t be surprised, and you gain proficiency in an amount of skills equal to your proficiency modifier that you do not already have proficiency in. Every long rest, you may swap out these proficiencies.
Spiritual Procession
At 6th level, the amount you can draw upon your remembrance specters has swelled, with the specters becoming capable of physical interaction, each capable of functioning as an unseen servant with a maximum range of 30 feet. Additionally, after expending a use of bardic inspiration, you may use your reaction to expend a specter, absorbing it, and regaining that bardic inspiration.
Phantom Orchestra
When you reach 14th level, you may use your bonus action to begin leading your remembrance specters in a phantom orchestra, each specter playing its own instrument along with your tune. This melody of memories expends one specter for every round you continue it, ending when all specters have been expended and requires concentration. It provides you with the following benefits:
- For every round the orchestra has been played, your spell save DC increases by 1.
- For every remembrance specter you have, you regain an equal amount of hp and temporary hp at the start of your turn.
- For every remembrance specter you have, you gain an equal bonus to your AC.
So long as the DM permits it, you may press these remembrances, straining the memories and threatening the bonds, providing you with the following benefits and drawbacks:
- A specter is no longer expended when you use a bonus action to continue the orchestra.
- You may hold concentration as well as the orchestra, so long as the spell is a bard spell.
- You gain a level of exhaustion for every bonus action you use to continue the orchestra.
- Any remembrance specters expended while stressing the orchestra are permanently erased from your memory. Discuss with your DM about any potential current or future replacements and the effects this has on your character.
