Some monks of the Way of the Astral Self had the blessing or the curse of their training with ki give their internal feelings and subconscious desires a physical manifestation in the form of an astral self. This astral self always helps the monk no matter what but may have a different personality since it is a manifestation of the monk's true personality and beliefs. It may urge the monk to do what they know to be right, helping the monk come to the conclusion that fits mostly with his beliefs. For example, a monk who believes in saving life, may be urged by his Astral Self to try to save everyone when it may be very difficult to do so. A monk who believes in friends and family might be urged to prioritize the life of their loved ones over more people. Based on his deepest desires, a monk may disagree with his Astral Self. Regardless, the Astral Self empowers the monk to allow him to face opposition.

Form of Astral Self

Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you gain an Astral Self that gives you various benefits and effects features you gain from this tradition in later levels.

The type and general appearance of the Astral form you gain is based on your alignment. However, you may ask your DM to ignore the alignment restriction. If your alignment corresponds to more than one type of Astral form, then you can choose any one from the forms that correspond to your alignment.

Your astral form appears as a kind of plant.

Astral Form's Empowerment

At 3rd level, you can summon your Astral from as a bonus action. The Astral form. The Astral form offers you some special benefits. You can dismiss the Astral form as a free action. It is also dismissed if you become unconscious.

  • Your size is considered Large while you have the Astral form summoned. This size doesn't effect your weapon attacks or health.
  • You may use WIS instead of STR for weapon attacks and skill checks.
  • Your carrying capacity increases by 3 times your WIS score.
  • As a bonus action, you can spend one Ki point to give yourself temporary HP equal to 1d8+Monk Level
  • While your Astral Form is summoned, you have disadvantage on Stealth checks.
  • You may use your Astral Form to attack when you take the attack action. They are considered Monk weapons but they follow some special restrictions. The ability used for attack and damage rolls with the Astral Form is WIS. The reach and damage die also varies depending on the form instead of following the rules for Martial Arts. The Damage type used is the same as the one associated with your Astral Form. Some forms use saving throws instead of attack rolls. The save DC is 8+your WIS mod + Prof. bonus. When you use Flurry of Blows while the Astral Form is summoned, you may use your astral form to attack instead of making unarmed attacks.

Astral Wisdom

At 6th level, while you have your Astral Form summoned, you can give yourself on a Perception or Insight check by spending 1 ki point. Additionally, you always have advantage on Persuasion and Insight checks on creatures of the same type as your Astral Form.

Astral Form: Special Power

At 6th level, you are able to spend ki points to cast spells via your Astral Form. The Material components of the spells are not needed to cast these spells. WIS is your spell casting ability for these spells.

Astral Resistance

At 11th level, you have attuned more closely to your Astral Form. you have resistance to the damage type associated with your Astral Form. Additionally, if the damage dealt to you after applying resistance is less than your Monk level, then the damage is negated completely.

One With Self

At 17th level, you have become one with your Astral Self. This synergy increases the power of your Astral Form. While you have your Astral Form summoned, you gain the following benefits:

  • You gain a +2 to AC
  • The damage die of attacks by your Astral Form is doubled. For example: The damage die when you attack with a Aberration Astral form increases from 1d4+WIS to 2d4+WIS.
  • You gain a bonus to saving throws equal to half your WIS modifier rounded down. The type of saving throw that gains this bonus depends on your Astral Form.

At 17th level, you are able to cast more powerful spells via your Astral Form by spending Ki points. The Material components of the spells are not needed to cast these spells. WIS is your spell casting ability for these spells.
