Bard
Base Class: Bard

The quick wit and sharp tongue iconic to the Bard's repertoire is a potent weapon for any who wish to taunt or distract their foes. In this way, some Bards find satisfaction in stoking their opponent's immense ire. Such Bards have become known as "brats", for it is impossible not to draw a direct comparison to a misbehaving child with their petulant taunts. Yet, once such performers have drawn their foe's agitated scorn, they revel in soaking up the punishment meted out, if only to spare their allies the pain.

Level 3: Pestering Words

You learn to say the exact things to challenge the authority of another. When a creature you can see within 60 feet of you makes an attack roll or ability check, you can use your Reaction to expend one of your uses of Bardic Inspiration, rolling the die and subtracting the result from the creature's roll. You can choose to use this feature after the DM determines whether the attack roll or ability check succeeds or fails. The creature is immune if it cannot hear you.

Flirt With Retribution

You have honed the ability to distract others to such a degree that they struggle to focus on anyone other than yourself due to the ire you inspire in them. When you use your Pestering Words feature, you can mark the affected creature. The marked target has Disadvantage on attack rolls against targets other than yourself. This mark fades after 1 minute or whenever you mark another target in this way.

You also gain Proficiency in Medium Armor and Shields.

Eye For Annoyances

You have a trained eye for discerning what words will most get under a creature's skin. You gain Proficiency in the Wisdom (Insight) skill. If you are already Proficient in that skill, you can choose another skill to become Proficient in.

In addition, as a Bonus Action, you can make a Wisdom (Insight) check against a creature you can see that isn't Incapacitated, contested by the target's Charisma (Deception) check. If you succeed, you can deal maximum damage with Vicious Mockery against that creature.

Level 6: Cheeky Dodge

Having repeatedly drawn punishment upon yourself, you have grown skillful in dodging the efforts of the creatures you have taunted. When you mark a creature with Flirt With Retribution, you have the following benefits:

  • When the marked creature makes an attack roll against you, you can add the Bardic Inspiration roll from Pestering Words to your Armor Class against the roll.
  • When the marked creature causes any number of creatures to make a saving throw while it can see you, you can use your Reaction to cause all creatures other than you that make the saving throw to be able to add the result of the Bardic Inspiration to the roll.

Hard Knocks

You relish in being the target of your enemy's ire. When a creature you have marked with Flirt With Retribution deals damage to you, you gain Temporary Hit Points equal to your Constitution score.

Level 14: Dance With Death

As a Reaction when a creature you have marked with Flirt With Retribution targets only yourself with an attack, ability, or spell, you can attempt to overcome it. If the triggering attack fails to hit you, or you succeed on the first saving throw or ability check required by the effect, you restore 3 uses of Bardic Inspiration. However, if that attack hits you or you fail the first saving throw or ability check required by the effect, you have Disadvantage on all d20 Tests and attack rolls until the end of your next turn. In addition, your Wisdom and Charisma scores decrease by 1 for one minute.

You can use this feature once for every time you use Pestering Words.
