Base Class: Fighter
Favoring honed expertise in particular techniques and styles of battle, Virtuosos are exactly as their title implies: talented masters of their craft. To Virtuosos, combat is as much an art as it is a conflict. Whether it be through a patient defense, a readied counteroffensive, or lethally devastating efficiency, Virtuosos use the battlefield as a canvas, and paint the story of their victory with skill, precision, and captivating brilliance.
Level 3: Battle Stance
When you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you learn to employ certain Battle Stances to meet specific combat scenarios more effectively. As a bonus action on your turn, you may enter one of the following stances for 1 minute, unless you are knocked Unconscious, Incapacitated, Restrained, or until the condition of the stance is met:
Protect. You exchange aggression for defense. While in this stance, your proficiency bonus is added to your Armor Class, and subtracted from your attack bonus. Additionally, any time an enemy hits you with a melee or ranged attack, you may make a special attack roll against the target, regardless of your proximity to the target. On a hit, you take no damage from the enemy's attack, but you deal no damage. You may use this special attack a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, after which, you exit this stance and must use a bonus action on your turn to re-enter it.
Punish. You ready yourself, exploiting any opening in your enemy's assault. While in this stance, any time an enemy within 5 feet of you causes you to take damage as the result of an attack or spell, you may make an attack against it. This attack does additional damage equal to your proficiency bonus and does not require the use of a reaction. If you miss one of these attacks, you exit the stance and must use a bonus action to re-enter it.
Perish. You eschew caution in order to inflict vicious wounds, potentially leaving yourself open. While in this stance, the damage bonus you receive from your ability modifier for melee attacks is doubled, but your Armor Class suffers a penalty equal to your Proficiency Bonus. Additionally, once per turn on a successful hit, you can choose to roll an additional damage die for your attack. After using this feature on your turn, all attacks against you have advantage until the start of your next turn. This feature adds an additional damage die at Level 10, Level 15, and Level 18.
Level 7: Visceral Attack
At 7th level, you learn how to more effectively exploit your enemy in vulnerable moments. If you have advantage against a creature due to a condition such as Stunned, you may instead roll without advantage. On a hit, the attack is counted as a Critical Hit for damage purposes.
Level 10: Martial Masterclass
At 10th level, your proficiency bonus is doubled for all combat benefits such as bonus to hit and the features of this class's Battle Stances. This does not apply to penalties.
Level 15: Effortless Talent
Starting at 15th level, your training has made your skills second nature, requiring little effort on your part to perform them. Entering a stance is now a free action on your turn and your stances only end if you end them willingly or 1 minute has passed. Your stances also gain the following effects:
Protect. Your Proficiency Bonus is no longer subtracted from your Attack Bonus. Additionally, the special attack roll performed for negating damage can now be used against spell attacks.
Punish. On a successful counter hit, you may make two attacks instead of one.
Perish. Your Proficiency Bonus is no longer subtracted from your Armor Class. Additionally, once per turn on a successful melee attack using your additional damage die, you can choose to do max damage for all damage die.
Superior Combatant
Starting at 18th level, enemies cannot land Critical Hits against you. Additionally, your weapon attacks score a critical hit on a roll of 18-20.
