Monk
Base Class: Monk

Monks of the Way of the Opportunity are street-smart fighters who blend martial arts with brutal improvisation. They understand that every environment is a weapon, every object a potential tool of destruction. These monks build "Opportunity" through combat—a burning focus that allows them to perform devastating techniques using whatever's at hand. They fight with the controlled fury of someone who's lost everything but refuses to break.

Street Fighter's Instinct

You've learned to fight with whatever's available. You gain proficiency with improvised weapons and they deal 1d4 + your Strength or Dexterity modifier damage in your hands. Additionally, improvised weapons count as monk weapons for you.

You can use your bonus action to interact with your environment in combat:

  • Grab a nearby object to use as an improvised weapon
  • Break something to create difficult terrain in a 5-foot square
  • Shove furniture or debris to provide half cover

Opportunity System

Your fighting spirit builds as combat intensifies. You gain Opportunity Points equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum 1). You start each combat with 0 Opportunity Points and gain them through:

  • Taking damage: Gain 1 Opportunity Point when you take damage (max 1 per turn)
  • Critical hits: Gain 1 Opportunity Point when you score a critical hit
  • Improvised strikes: Gain 1 Opportunity Point when you hit with an improvised weapon (max 2 per turn)
  • Environmental advantage: Gain 1 Opportunity Point when you use the environment creatively (DM's discretion)

Opportunity Points last until the end of combat or until you spend them.

Opportunity Moves

When you have Opportunity Points, you can spend them on reducing Focus points to perform devastating techniques:

  • Taunting laughFor 1 focus point, as an attack after hitting a target with an attack point and laughing at a target, the target makes a WIS save, if failed they have disadvantage on targets but you.
  • Dirty Fighting: For 1 focus point, when you hit with an unarmed strike, the target has disadvantage on their next attack roll.
  • Combo Breaker: For 1 focus point, when an enemy hits you with a melee attack, immediately make an unarmed strike against them as a reaction.
  • Weapon Toss: For 2 focus points, after hitting with an improvised weapon, throw it at another target within 20 feet as a reaction. Make a ranged attack; on a hit, deal the weapon's damage.
  • Environment Slam: For 3 focus points, as an attack grab a nearby object or piece of terrain and slam your target into it. A shockwave of 5ft radius deal an extra 2d6 damage and knock them prone on a failed DEX saving throw.
  • Improvised Devastation: For 3 focus points, turn any improvised weapon into a one-use magical weapon. It deals maximum damage and has an additional effect based on the object (DM's discretion: fire damage for a torch, blinding for sand, etc.)
