Bard
Base Class: Bard

Mimicry Bards specialize in taking others' ideas and abilities as their own. Using others' songs, jokes, stories, and even magic, they are able to build themselves up as creative and inventive individuals. Why would you be creative when others can do the work for you?

Bards of this college usually hide their intellectual thefts, passing themselves off as Bards of a different college.

Level 3: Bardic "Inspiration"

You become "inspired" by another Bard college and gain one 3rd level subclass feature from that college.

Level 3: Memory Appropriation

As College of Mimicry, you are able to take others' stories and pass them as your own.

You learn the Detect Thoughts spell and always have the spell prepared. You are able to understand a creature's thoughts when you target them with this spell, regardless of if you speak their language or not. If you try to probe deeper into the target's mind, you are able to discern a major memory of theirs within the past month if they fail their Wisdom saving throw. If you know of an event that happened to the target within the past month, you can specifically locate that memory instead. You learn the full contents of that memory, gaining knowledge only on the details the target would know. You may then remove that memory from the mind of the creature as an additional Magic action. The creature must make another Wisdom saving throw, this time with advantage. On a failure, they have no recollection of the memory and no recollection of you ever probing your mind. A creature can only ever be targeted with this memory probing ability from you once, regardless of whether you removed the memory or not. You may also only use this ability once per long rest.

You may also cast Detect Thoughts without using this memory probing ability as normal.

Level 6: Spell Theft

You can use the spells others cast as your own. Upon your successful saving throw against the effects of a spell or successfully stopping or ending the effects of a spell via Counterspell or Dispel Magic, you can add that spell to the list of spells that you know. The spell must be of a level you can cast; you can cast the spell using your spell slots of the correct level, and it is always prepared. However, you must cast the spell using the original spell level at which it was casted, and you may not upcast the spell any further. You may take a number of spells equal to half your Proficiency Bonus (rounded up) at a time. If you have the maximum number of spells learned from this feature, you must choose one to forget in order to take another.

Level 14: Feature Imitation

You can copy a feature from another class. The chosen feature may only be available to that class at 5th level or lower, as well as fit the following criteria:

  • It is not a type of spellcasting feature
  • It is not a subclass feature
  • It may not reference a feature you do not have (such as a separate feature from that class)

If the feature scales with the level of that class, you treat the class's level as 5th level. If you require a spellcasting focus for use of the feature you do not have, you may spend 30 minutes creating a fake replica with which you may use the feature. This duration may coincide with a short rest.
