Monk
Base Class: Monk

Like most monks, you have trained your entire life to whatever monastic tradition you have committed to. Thus, your skills are second nature, your senses are honed, and your talents ever blossoming. But these monks, they do not train for a matter of self-preservation or moral, but to protect those around them. These monks believe in the martial arts to be a way of self-defense and only self defense. There's is no offense, only defense. Some even think that a better defense is already an offense in itself.

Fortuitous Stance

At 3rd level, you recall upon your basic training and the fundamentals of personal defensive techniques

As a bonus action, you may spend 1 ki point to enter in a defensive stance giving you the following benefits:

  • You are immune to being knocked prone
  • You are immune to being moved unwillingly by physical means

However, on the next turn, your movement speed is reduced by 15 ft.

You can instead expend 3 ki points to combine this with the Patient Defense bonus action

Retaliation

At 6th level, you learn how to punish your opponent's missed attack

Every time a creature misses a melee weapon attack against you, you may use 1 ki point to attack them once, adding your Proficiency Bonus to your damage rolls.

Does not use your reaction.

Iron Will

At 11th level, you have spent countless hours learning what it means to have true resolve, patience and focus. Thus the result of gaining unyielding determination.

Whenever you would normally suffer a point of exhaustion, you don't. Every point of exhaustion for you is reduced by one. You have also learned how to zone out all insignificant distractions from your training, study, or work. You gain +1 on all Wisdom Checks and you can add an additional +3 to any two Wisdom skill checks. You are also immune to being frightened.

 

Total Defense

At 17th level, you begin to understand your own weaknesses and your opponent's on an extraordinary level.

Whenever you enter your Fortuitous Stance now, you automatically have the benefits of Patient Defense.

As an Action, you can forgo Fortuitous Stance and instead expend 5 ki points to enter Total Defense. If you are already in Fortuitous Stance, you may expend 2 ki points to enter into the Total Defense stance (no action required).

You also gain the additional following benefits:

  • You gain +2 to AC
  • You no longer have a reduced speed
  • You gain Advantage on Wisdom and Dexterity Saving Throws
  • You gain Advantage to one attack on a specified target that you can see. You may, as a Bonus Action, roll a Medicine Check to discern weak points in the enemy. If successful (DM's discretion), you learn its Immunities, Resistances, and Vulnerabilities 
    • Also upon succession of the Medicine Check, the next hit is treated as a critical hit

This stance requires concentration. Lasts for 1 minute.
