Monk
Base Class: Monk

Students of the Way of the Sentinel practice the art of patience and quick, reactionary strikes. They train to hone their perceptive instincts, becoming quick to notice even the slightest break in an enemy’s guard. A master of the Way of the Sentinel can take advantage of any opening, and even force their enemies to falter. On the battlefield, these monks often take to the front lines, fearlessly waiting for their foes to strike, and making swift work of those who take a single misstep.

Sharp Eyes

When you choose this tradition at 3rd level, your training has given you an extraordinary eye for detail. You gain proficiency in the Perception skill if you don’t already have it, and can double your proficiency bonus for any checks you make with it.

Additionally, you have learned to channel your Ki into your mind, keeping yourself alert and one step ahead of your enemies in the heat of battle. As a bonus action on your turn, you may spend 1 Ki point to take the Ready action as described in the Player’s Handbook.

Swift Reflexes

Starting at 6th level, your reflexes have become so honed that you can capitalize on any opening in an enemy’s guard, no matter what caused it. Whenever a creature leaves your reach, even unwillingly as the result of being pushed or any other circumstance, you may make an opportunity attack against that creature with your reaction. Making an opportunity attack against a creature that is being moved against its will does not interrupt its movement. For example, making an opportunity attack against a creature pushed by the Thunderwave spell does not stop the creature from being pushed.

Additionally, you may also use your reaction to make an opportunity attack against a creature that falls prone in your reach, provided that your hands are free to use your equipped weapons or unarmed strikes.

Ki Burst

Starting at 11th level, you have learned how to use your Ki to break your enemies’ guards. You gain the Gust cantrip. You may also spend 1 Ki point to cast the Thunderwave spell or the Earth Tremor spell. Your spell save DC for these spells is 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier.

Additionally, you have learned to use your Ki to empower your reflexive movements, making them deadly accurate. Whenever you make an opportunity attack, you may spend 1 Ki point to make your opportunity attacks deal an extra 1d8 force damage until the start of your next turn. This damage increases to 2d8 at 17th level.

Sentinel's Vigilance

Starting at 17th level, you are extraordinarily quick to react to any movement your trained eye catches. In combat, you get a special reaction that you can take once on every creature's turn, except your turn. You can use this special reaction only to make an opportunity attack, and you can't use it on the same turn that you take your normal reaction. You may also use this special reaction for opportunity attacks granted by your Swift Reflexes feature, allowing you to make opportunity attacks for enemies unwillingly moved out of your reach during another creature's turn. You follow the description given in your Swift Reflexes feature as normal.
