Base Class: Monk
Monks of Gun Fu are one with the iron, to punch with the fist is to pull the trigger of a gun. They aim with precision and move with grace, tactfully eliminating their foes around them. One might think why not every person use a firearm like them, but there is a certain level of confidence, or stupidity, one needs to willingly forgo one of the guns best features and use it point blank.
I am currently working on playtesting this subclass and others of mine. I would appreciate insight on any red flags that I happened to miss.
Path of Gun Fu
When you choose this tradition at 3rd level, your special training leads you to master the use of firearms in combination with your body. You gain the following benefits:
- Gun Fu Weapon. You gain proficiency with firearms. You may choose a type of firearm that lacks the two-handed and explosive property to become your Gun Fu weapon. Weapons of this chosen type are monk weapons for you. When you reach 6th, 11th, and 17th level in this class, you can choose another type of firearm to be a Gun Fu weapon for you, following the criteria above.
- Loaded Punch. If you make an unarmed strike as part of the attack action and your Gun Fu weapon is unloaded, you reload it as part of the action.
- Gun to a Knife Fight. You do not gain disadvantage on attack rolls while you are within 5 feet of a hostile creature.
One with the Gun
At 6th level, you extend your ki into your Gun Fu weapons, giving you the following benefits.
- Magic Gun Fu Weapons. Your attacks with your Gun Fu weapons count as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage.
- Explosive Retaliation. When a hostile creature makes a melee attack against you, you can spend 1 ki point to use your reaction to make an attack against them with your gun fu weapon.
Bullet Dance
At 11th level, you can spend 3 ki points as an action to attack every hostile creature within a 10 foot radius of you with your gun fu weapon, disregarding the loading property of the weapon. Each attack is seperate. Your weapon is unloaded at the end of this action.
One, Two, Punch
At 17th level, when you hit with your Gun Fu weapon as part of the attack action you may choose to make an unarmed melee attack on the same target. You can use this feature only once on each of your turns. This attack activates Loaded Punch.
