Base Class: Druid
The circle of Monsters is a relatively new druid circle, and their beliefs are not widely accepted by most other druids. Druids of the circle of monsters seek to preserve the natural order of everything and believe even the most alien of creatures are an important part of nature. these druids seek to immerse themselves in the habitats of monsters and other strange creatures, most commonly, the Underdark, and the planes of existence less commonly. the highest honor and goal of druids of this circle is to be able to reach the far realm and return alive with the knowledge. none have yet achieved this feat
Wild Shape-shift
When you choose this circle at 2nd level, you gain the ability to use Wild Shape to transform into monstrosities as well as beasts. you can also use your Wild Shape to transform into creatures in a type of your choice. choose a creature type: aberrations, celestials, dragons, fey, fiends, oozes, or plants. you can use wild shape to transform into creatures of this type. if the creature you wildshape into has weapons, you do not have them while as that creature. finally, your max wildshape CR is 1/2, and remains that way till 6th level. other wildshape restrictions on flying and swimming speed still apply.
Stronger Monsters
Starting at 6th level, the max CR of your wild shape is equal to 1/5 of your druid level rounded down. other wild shape restrictions apply. additionally, you can Wildshape into an additional type of creature. choose a creature type: aberrations, celestials, dragons, fey, fiends, oozes, or plants. you can use wild shape to transform into creatures of this type. Other normal wildshape restrictions apply.
Ambimonstrous
At 10th level, your wildshape can freely change your shape, but only for so long. you can use your wildshape an unlimited number of times, but you can only use it for 2 hours per day. if you end your wildshape before 2 hours have passed, the next wildshape you use can last up to 2 hours minus the time you spent wildshaped rounded up to the nearest minute. if you have the arch-druid class ability, the duration of your wildshape is infinite.
Wild Splice
By 14th level, you have learned to use your wild shape to splice forms of many creatures together. you can expend one hour of wild shape to transform yourself into an amalgamation of creatures. choose 6 creatures you can wild shape into. take the ability scores of one, the size of one, the proficiencies of one, the speed of one, the traits and senses of one and the actions of one. you then transform into a combination of the creatures using the selected stats. if any of the actions use weapons, you ignore them.
Come on, it’s not that bad….
This is so bad.
Thank god for this, I very much dislike only being able to summon/wildshape into beasts instead of anything else
I shall work on a new version with these critiques in mind. Thank you for your feedback!
One thing i'm concern with is Monstrosity like Griffons, how are those not a option? But I have the same concern of sasquatch as well, mostly on the CR from lvl2 to lvl6, because I saw this as a monster-theme version of the Circle of the Moon. But having gone through the monster manual, there very little that can be transform into between lvl 2 and 6 if it you can only transform into those with CR 1/2. While the Moon Druid can be any that are CR 1 at lvl 2 till reaching lvl 6 and up, along with other benefiting features.
And another note, Ambimonstrous seem to break what a Druid can normally be able to do after using Wild Shape. As they could be their chosen form for a numbers of hours that equal to half of the Druid's current lvl, that about the only other thing that I see as a down side.
I love the idea of the subclass but the two main problems is the speed restrictions and the cr level. If you choose something like celestial or dragon to start with you're kinda screwed
The basic idea of this class was to have a druid who was more of a shapeshifter. The druids are all about preserving nature and being immersed in it, but they don't really consider things like celestials, fiends, and aberrations. I wanted a druid who would immerse themselves in the good, as well as the bad and the ugly because those things are part of the natural D&D world. Anyway, feedback is greatly appreciated, so please leave comments on things that could be improved.
