Monk
Base Class: Monk

Monks of the Way of the Sumotori reject the traditional martial artist's focus on speed and dexterity in favour of size and strength. These imposing warriors maintain a strict diet and training regime that allows them to grow immensely large and strong. Their strikes carry with them immense weight and power, and yet they do not close their fists. They possess the strength to wield virtually any weapon, and yet choose to fight using only their immense bodyweight and technical knowledge of grapples and throws. Their path is one of principle, honor and unwavering dedication. The Sumotori way is steeped in tradition and spirituality -their rituals include the stomping of feet to drive away demons and evil spirits, the clapping of hands to summon the gods to witness their power, the spreading of salt over the arena and the consumption of sacred water to purify both the battleground and their own bodies of darkness and impurity. It is said that the art of Sumo was first born from the gods themselves, and the Sumotori seek to honor these gods through their devotion to righteous and glorious combat.

OPTIONAL RULES The nature of the Sumotori warriors is that of respect, honor and inner strength. As such, especially lawful Sumotori will likely adhere to the following rules, while those that have tailored their martial art for war may leave these specific values behind. Weapons. Part of a sumo's combat ritual is a raised-arm display to signify to their opponent that they are fighting without weapons. As such, Way of the Sumotori monks may reject the use of weapons completely. Unarmed Strikes. In addition, the use of closed-fist punches are outlawed in Sumo, and a monk that follows the honorable principles of the martial art may exclusively use open palm slaps and jabs for their unarmed strikes.

Shingitai

You gain the following benefits:

Heart. You can use your reaction to grant yourself advantage on saving throws or Strength (Athletics) contests that would knock you prone, and reduce the distance of any undesired push or pull effect by half.

Technique. You gain proficiency in the Athletics skill if you do not already have it. In addition, whenever you hit a creature with one of the attacks granted by your Flurry of Blows, you can attempt to grapple it.

Body. You gain 3 additional hit points, and 1 additional hit point each time you gain a level in this class. The nature of your Unarmored Defense also changes. While wearing no armor and not wielding a shield, your AC equals 10 + your Strength modifier + your Wisdom modifier.

Shiko Ritual

At 6th level, your shiko, the combat ritual of the sumo, manifests the power to commune with the gods and drive out evil spirits.

You gain the following abilities:

Invoke the Divine: As a bonus action, you can spend 1 ki point to cast Divine Favor

Repel the Wicked: As an action, you can expend 1 ki point to cast Protection from Evil and Good, needing no material components

Purifying Dohyo

At 11th level, you learn to construct and purify a dohyo, a sumo combat ring, cleansing the area of evil spirits, or trapping them within its bounds.

You can spend 4 ki points to cast the magic circle spell with its normal casting time, substituting a handful of salt as the material component for the spell

Mountainous Might

Beginning at 11th level, you count as one size larger for the purposes of grappling and shoving opponents, and other creatures making grapples or shoves against you.

Hundred Hand Slap

Starting at 17th level, you can unleash an all-out assault against a single opponent.

When you take the Attack action and make both attacks against the same target, and use your bonus action for Flurry of Blows, you can spend up to 3 additional ki points, making one unarmed strike against that same target for each additional ki point spent.
