Monk
Base Class: Monk

While those that follow the way of the Kensei practice extensively with lighter weapons, those that seek the way of the Steel Hurricane are more adept at using the heavier, more impactful weapons, swinging them with momentum and finesse.

Path of the Hurricane

When you choose this tradition at 3rd level, your special martial arts training leads you to master the use of certain weapons. This path also includes instructions in the great strikes of masonry and smithing. You gain the following benefits:

  • Hurricane Weapons. Choose two types of weapons to be your hurricane weapons. Each of these weapons can be any simple or martial weapon with the two-handed or versatile weapon that lacks the special property. You gain proficiency with these weapons if you don’t already have it. Weapons of the chosen types are monk weapons for you. Many of this tradition’s features work only with your hurricane weapons. When you reach 6th, 11th, and 17th level in this class, you can choose another type of weapon to be a hurricane weapon for you, following the criteria above.
  • Cleaving Momentum. When you make an attack as part of the Attack action with a hurricane weapon that you are wielding in two hands and that does not have the reach property, you can spend 1 ki point to target two creatures instead of one. If you do so, you make both attacks at disadvantage.
  • Strikes of the North Wind. When you make an attack on your turn with a hurricane weapon that you are wielding in two hands and that does have the reach property, you can spend 1 ki point to increase the reach of that weapon by 5 feet until the start of your next turn.
  • Way of the Anvil. You gain proficiency with your choice of mason’s tools or smith’s tools.

Hammer on the Anvil

At 6th level, you extend your ki into your hurricane weapons, granting you the following benefits:

  • Magic Hurricane Weapons. Your attacks with your hurricane weapons count as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage.
  • Iron Tempest. When you hit a target with a hurricane weapon, you can spend 1 ki point to cause the weapon to deal extra damage to the target equal to your Martial Arts die. You can use this feature only once on each of your turns.

Shatterstone Impact

At 11th level, you gain the ability to augment your weapons further with your ki. As a bonus action, you can expend up to 3 ki points to grant one hurricane weapon you touch the might of the typhoon for 1 minute, or until you use this feature again. Whenever you make a shove attack against a creature with that weapon, you gain a bonus to the Athletics check you make for that shove attack equal to the number of ki points you spent, and if you choose to push the target, it is pushed an extra number of feet equal to 5 times the number of ki points you spent.

Calm after the Storm

Also at 11th level, your training hones your ability to tap into your ki to cleanse your body and soul. When you use Stillness of Mind, you can instead end one effect on yourself that is causing you to be blinded or deafened.

Flow of the Momentous Gale

By 17th level, you have mastered the art of hurricane weapons, allowing you to keep your weapon in motion even after a failed strike. When you miss an attack with a hurricane weapon, you can use your reaction to make an attack against a different creature within 5 feet of you with the same weapon.
