Base Class: Monk
Monks of the Way of Tempest revere the water element with all its power and beauty. Monks that follow the Way of Tempest understand that there is a time for stillness and self-mastery and a time for destruction. These monks allow the water element to live within them, drawing from it as a source of peace and power. At times these monks are quiet, focused on perfecting their skills. At other times, these monks are masters of combat, capable of dealing great blows. However, their great power can be difficult to control, and it sometimes results in a weaker strike. Regardless of their methods, Monks of the Way of Tempest are well-rounded warriors with a variety of skills at their disposal.
Tempest Strike
Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you can use your ki to make a powerful second strike. Immediately after you take the Attack action on your turn, you can use a bonus action to make an unarmed strike. If this strike hits, you can spend 1 ki point to turn the strike into a Tempest Strike. This strike deals an extra 2d6 cold damage.
The amount of the extra damage increases as you gain levels in this class: 3d6 at 9th level, 4d6 at 13th level, and 5d6 at 17th level.
Proficiency
At 6th level, your self-mastery has allowed you to excel in particular skills. Choose two skills. Your gain proficiency for any ability check you make that uses either of the chosen proficiencies.
Way of the Water
At 11th level, the water element within you is now an expression of your soul, giving you new ways to use your ki points:
Homing Strikes. If you make an attack roll and miss the target, you can spend 1 ki point to roll one d6 and add the number rolled to the attack roll. If this causes the attack to hit, you expend the ki point.
Water Teleportation. As a bonus action, you can spend 1 ki point to teleport up to 60 feet away. You manifest water out of thin air, roll one d6, and throw the water at an unoccupied space you can see, up to a number of feet away equal to 10 times the number rolled. You then teleport to that space, and the water vanishes.
Opportunist
At 17th level, you can exploit a creature’s momentary distraction when it is hit by an attack. Whenever a creature within 5 feet of you is hit by an attack made by a creature other than you, you can use your reaction to make a melee attack against that creature.
