Monk
Base Class: Monk

Monks of the Kinetic Self utilize the ki within their bodies to push themselves beyond what thought physically possible. Usually, this ki generates a type of energy that cannot be contained by their body, manifesting in electrical sparks and energy fields that permeate their form.

Kinetic Properties

Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you learn how to use your ki to activate latent kinetic energy available within your body and channel it into your projectiles. Once per turn, whenever you make a ranged weapon attack with a thrown weapon, you can expend 1 to 3 ki points to enhance the properties of the projectile. You must choose which properties to apply before making the attack roll. For each ki point expended, you can choose one of the following options. You cannot choose an option more than once unless stated in the option's details.

  • Charged - When you choose this option, the damage of the attack increases after becoming infused with the latent energy in your body. On a hit, the attack deals additional lightning damage equal to another roll of the weapon's damage die. You can choose this option more than once.
  • Accurate - When you choose this option, the ki in your body infuses the projectile with a more consistent flight path. For this attack, attacking at a long range doesn't impose disadvantage and being within 5 feet of a hostile creature doesn't impose disadvantage on the attack.
  • Forceful - When you choose this option, you imbue the projectile with the forceful presence of your ki. On a hit, the targeted creature must succeed on a Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.

Unleashed Kinetics

At 17th level, the latent kinetic energy strengthens the field around you, creating a centralized magnetic field that you can manipulate and control to a degree. As a result, you gain the following benefits:

  • You gain the ability to manipulate finely crushed iron dust or metal powder. As a free action, you can manipulate the dust to create a single tiny object. The object maintains its form as long as it is within 5 feet of your person. If the object leaves that radius,  it returns to the dust after 6 seconds.
  • As an action, you can touch a piece of nonmagical metal no larger than 10 lbs and is not being worn or carried, focus your ki upon it, causing it to disintegrate into a fine metal powder.
  • As an action, you can spend 3 ki points to suspend and strengthen the field around you. For 1 minute, ranged weapon attacks made against you are made at disadvantage.

Kinetic Discipline

Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you learn how to focus your ki through small dart-like objects. As a result, darts are considered a monk weapon for you and gain all bonuses associated with that. Additionally, the normal and long range of your darts are doubled.

At 6th level, darts you use for your attacks are considered magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage.

Thunderdash

At 6th level, the latent energy inside you allows you to burst forward with intense, unnatural energy. As an action, you can expend 2 ki points and choose a direction, then you burst forward at an incredible speed. You move up to your movement speed in the chosen direction without provoking opportunity attacks and passing through enemys' spaces. Each creature in that 5 feet wide line must make a Constitution saving throw or take 3d10 thunder damage and be pushed 5 feet away from the line. On a success, a creature takes half as much damage and does not get pushed. If your movement ends on a tile occupied by another creature, you are shunted to the nearest unoccupied square.

Ki-Aligned Counter

At 11th level, your latent energy has begun to form a small, imperceivable ki field around you. As a result, you gain the following benefits:

  • When a creature within your melee range is targeted and hit by a ranged weapon attack, you can activate your Deflect Missiles feature as if you were the one targeted (the target of the attack remains the same).
  • If you use a ki point to make a ranged attack with the missile, you can add a single Kinetic Property to the missile without expending a ki point.
  • If a ranged weapon attack is made against you and misses, you can use your reaction to catch the missile (no roll required). You can then treat the missile as a normal projectile for your Deflect Missiles feature.
