Base Class: Ranger
Elite warriors of the Endless Green, Weldwarkin protect the wooded land of Weld from the powerful knights and mages of foreign empires. Poor and magically deprived, soldiers of Weld rarely have armour and never have spells, but the keen senses of Weldfolk make up for it!
Weldwarwyn
The martial art of Weldwarwyn is expressly designed to deal with enemies far more powerful and dangerous than common woodsmen can ever hope to handle. It focuses on observing one's surroundings, processing every detail, unifying with the outer world and one's instincts to stamp out any hesitation. This in-the-moment trance affords Weldwarwyn adepts speed and reaction time that help them outmaneuver and overwhelm superior foes.
At 3rd Level, you can be considered proficient in the martial art known as Weldwarwyn; but if you know this, you learned it because you need to face down magic without having it yourself. Upon recieving this feature, you lose any spellcasting granted to you by your ranger levels. However, your Primeval Awareness is replaced with by Weldwarwyn Meditation, and you may (although you do not have to) replace your Fighting Style with one of the special Weldwarkin or Ashguard Fighting Styles. Finally, you may make your Favoured Enemy any Humanoid that has at least one spell slot.
-Weldwarwyn Meditation: Through years or even decades of meditative exercises focusing on observing your surroundings with varied senses, you have learned to passively observe all things around you. Your five senses far exceed even the sharpest elf, and you gain expertise in the Perception skill.
Additionally, by taking a moment to focus your senses, you can become hyper-aware of your surroundings. As an action you may concentrate on your five senses, showing you the location of every object or creature within 100 feet, unless it passes a Stealth check equal to your passive Perception, so long as it is moving, emitting noise, or is within your line of sight. Even slight movements or whispered conversations can be detected, but the creature cannot be detected if it is behind an opaque, soundproof, smell-blocking barrier. For every creature that you observe, you will know where it is, what size it is, and if it is a Favoured Enemy.
At 6th Level, the range of your meditation increases to 200 feet, and at 9th Level it increases to 300.
If you take time to really concentrate and spend ten minutes concentrating uninterrupted on your senses, you can detect even the ants crawling on the ground. The range of your awareness extends to five times its maximum radius and you can tell what kind of creature each is (Abberation, Humanoid, Fey etc.) even if they are not your Favoured Enemy. Additionally, by observing the reactions of creatures and small changes on the air, you can sense if there is anything nearby that should not be there. You may enjoy the usual effect of Primeval Awareness without requiring a spell slot.
-Weldwarkin Fighting Style: Equally deadly from up close or far away, Weldwarkin strike once hard and then are gone before their enemies can react.
You may swap between any one-handed melee weapon and any simple ranged weapon as a free action, including in between Multiattacks. On the first round of combat only you get one extra attack and may both dash and disengage for free. You may not benefit from this fighting style while wearing medium or heavy armour, or when carrying a shield.
-Ashguard Fighting Style: Unbreakable when needed, then gone in a heartbeat, the Ashguard are a mobile fortress.
If you are using a shield, you may apply disadvantage to any attack against an ally within 5 feet as a reaction. Alternatively, if you are wielding a polearm, you may use your reaction to attack any enemy that enters within 5 feet of you. When you take an action to either dash or disengage, you do both.
Weldwarkin Mobility
Once an aspiring Weldwarkin has mastered the observation and awareness techniques of Weldwarwyn meditation, next comes the application of that quick thought and battlefield awareness. Weldwarkin lack both offense and defense, but this is well and truly made up for by their sheer speed!
At 7th Level, you have mastered the battlefield mobility that Weldwarkin are famed for. Your movement speed increases by 10 feet while wearing no or light armour, or 5 feet while wearing medium armour. Your Dexterity score increases by 1 unless it is already 20 or higher. You can stand up from being prone at no movement cost. When succeeding a dexterity saving throw to take half damage, you instead take none at all. However, failing the save will still result in full damage.
Prince's Dance
The greatest of all Weldwarwyn masters, Prince Eldar Ashwood, was called the "Dancing Prince", for when he fought his movements were so fluid and precise and blended into each other so seamlessly that it was like a dance. The battle trance that Weldwarwyn elites can enter into is often called the "Prince's Dance" in his honour. Any master warrior can hit fast and hit hard, but only Weldwarkin fight with such graceful beauty.
At 11th Level, when taking an action to use Weldwarwyn Meditation, you may choose to enter into a Weldwarwyn Trance for one minute, as many times as one quarter of your ranger level rounded down, replenished on a long rest. This is a state of perfect harmony with your senses and the world around you, in which your reaction times and movements are faster than the eye can follow and blend seamlessly into each other. While in a Weldwarwyn Trance, you gain the following benefits:
-You have advantage to all Dexterity saving throws.
-You gain 2 AC and may use your reaction to make any incoming attack roll with disadvantage.
-You can dash or disengage as a bonus action.
-Your movement speed increases by 10ft and you are not slowed by difficult terrain.
Leaf Cloak
Truly elite Weldwarwyn masters wear cloaks covered in small, hand-made mock leaves. Originally created to aid in camoflage, these cloaks are now a symbol of status. Only the very highest echelon of Weldwarkin are granted the right to wear one. This right is now granted to you. Your awareness of the world around you is now so profound that you can see everything in your immediate vicinity simply by slight vibrations on the wind.
At 15th Level, you rank among the greatest Weldwarwyn masters of your age. You can no longer be surprised, your AC permanently increases by 1 when not wearing heavy armour, your maximum Dexterity from Ability Score Improvement increases to 22, and you gain the following improvements to your Weldwarwyn Trance:
-You gain 20 feet of Blindsight.
-You gain advantage on Wisdom saving throws.
-All incoming attacks of opportunity are rolled with disadvantage.
Additionally, you may spend 500 gold, or if you have proficiency with weaver's tools, 50 gold and three months of time to commission a Weldwarwyn Leaf Cloak. While wearing this cloak, you gain the effects of Hide in Plain Sight without taking the time to prepare, but only when hiding amongst greenery. This cloak signifies you as an exceptionally elite master warrior, and other creatures may react accordingly.
