Practitioners of the Way of the Kinsect are specialists in fast, fluid, and acrobatic combat. Though this may seem redundant for a monastic warrior, these aces take their combat to another level with deft aerial maneuvers and whirling attacks. These high-flying warriors also share a special bond with a Small insect known as a Kinsect. These Kinsects aid their masters in battle by extracting essences from monsters and imbuing them with said essences. 

Kinsect Bond

Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you gain the ability to summon a Kinsect as a 30 minute ritual. Work with your DM to decide its appearance and personality. The kinsect can communicate with you telepathically by conveying images and emotions, which you can generally understand. The kinsect understands any languages you speak and generally follows your commands. Its statistics are listed below:

Small Beast

Armor Class: 12 + your Wisdom modifier + your PB (natural armor)

Hit Points 2 + your Wisdom modifier + 5 times your monk level (the Kinsect has a number of Hit Dice equal to your monk level)

Recharge if your Kinsect ever reaches 0 Hit Points, instead of dying the Kinsect immediately becomes Petrified until the end of your next long rest.

Nimble Flight the Kinsect doesn't provoke opportunity attacks when it flies out of an enemy's reach.

 

 

Insect Glaive Technique

At 3rd level, you gain proficiency with the glaive and it counts as a monk weapon for you. As a bonus action, you can command your Kinsect to attack a creature within 30 feet. Your kinsect flies from you to the creature and makes an attack (+4 + your PB to hit, deals 1d4 + 4 piercing damage). On a hit, it flies back to you and grants you one of four essences.
Red: You may use your glaive for one of your Flurry of Blows attacks. While airborne, you may make your full suite of attacks. Lasts for 90 seconds.
White: Your Glaive Vault distance is increased to 25 feet. Glaive Vaulting only counts against half of your total movement. Lasts for 120 seconds.
Orange: You temporarily add your proficiency bonus to your AC, but only while your kinsect is on you and you are wielding your Insect Glaive. Lasts 150 seconds.
Green: You heal for PBd4 hit points.
As a bonus action, you can vault 15 feet into the air. You may vault a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, or whenever you use Step of the Wind. 

Aerial Dash

At 6th level, when you use Step of the Wind while falling, you may move up to 15 feet in any horizontal direction. This distance increases to 20 feet when you have a White Essence. 

Whirlwind Attack

At 11th level, you have learned to make use of your glaive’s reach in a dazzling display of ferocity. As an action, you may attack every creature within a 10 ft. sphere, centered on you. Each creature within the sphere must make a Dexterity saving throw or take 3d10 slashing damage, half on a success. While using Aerial Dash, the area moves with you, dealing damage until you stop moving on your turn. You may perform this attack once per short rest, or by spending 3 ki points. 

Essence Rush

At 11th level, you gain the ability to temporarily power up your kinsect. As an action, you spend 3 ki points to supercharge your kinsect for 1 minute. When your kinsect makes an attack while in this supercharged state, it can extract up to two essences at a time. 

Kinsect Storm

At 17th level, your bond with your kinsect has reached its full potential. As an action, you spend 9 ki points and cast Insect Plague at 9th level. The spell’s duration is shortened to instantaneous. Your casting ability is Wisdom for this spell.
