Sorcerer
Base Class: Sorcerer

Your innate magic comes from the power of elemental ice. Few are born with the magic to create freezing temperatures at will, but many who are were born on the night of the winter solstice during the month of Nightal. Perhaps you were blessed by the winter maiden herself, or do your powers originate from the frost fell, the elemental plane of ice? Which ever the reason, you found a talent at freezing the air around you and the power to create and manipulate ice. You find comfort in freezing temperatures that normal people couldn't survive in. Where ever you go, a chill in the air seems to follow. Frost mages, Cryomancers, Snow Casters, and Mages of the Frost Fell are all common titles to those blessed by the Winter Soul.

Winter Magic

1st-level Winter Soul feature

You learn additional spells when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown on the Winter Soul Spells table. Each of these spells counts as a sorcerer spell for you, but it doesn’t count against the number of sorcerer spells you know.

Winter Soul Spells
Sorcerer Level Spells
3rd misty step
7th control water
11th freezing sphere, wall of ice
15th control weather

In addition, as an action, you choose a point that you can see within 30 feet, you manipulate the temperature in that location, choosing from one the following options.

Freeze. You target a point that you can see within range, the area freezes in a 5-foot radius sphere centered at the point you choose. The ground becomes frozen and the air shimmers with ice crystals, any water in the area becomes frozen solid. Alternatively, you can instead create 5 inches of snow to blanket the ground in a 5-foot radius square. Either way, this area is difficult terrain and considered to be under the effects of extreme cold, it melts after 1 hour.
Melt. You can destroy 10lbs of ice or snow within a 5-foot radius sphere at a point within range. Ice destroyed in this way creates up to 10 gallons of clean water in the same area. Alternatively, you can destroy fog or falling snow within a 30-foot cube in the same manner.
Shape Ice. You cause snow or ice to form into simple shapes and animate at your direction, such as a snowman, ice sculptures, or creating a path of ice. Ice manipulated in this way only effects a 5-foot radius sphere, they have 5 AC and 15 hit points for each 5-foot section. This change lasts for 1 hour, you can have up to two instances of shape ice active at a time.

Piercing Cold

1st-level Winter Soul feature

Your magic protects you from the harmful effects of the cold and chills the souls of your foes. Abilities and spells you cast ignore resistances to cold damage, you gain resistance to cold damage, and you are not affected by freezing temperatures, including the effects of extreme cold.

Metamagic: Frostfell

6th-level Winter Soul feature

You have mastered the ability to manifest the magic of the Frostfell in the spells you cast. You gain new metamagic options when you cast a sorcerer spell, choosing from one of the options below.

  • Cold Snap. You may spend 1 sorcery point when you hit a creature with a single target spell attack to empower your spells with freezing cold, adding frozen icicles or blocks of solid ice. You deal an additional 2d6 bludgeoning, piercing, or cold damage (your choice as you choose this option) to that creature. At 18th-level your Cold Snap instead deals 2d12 damage of the chosen type.
  • Frost Burn. When a creature takes cold damage from a spell that you cast, you may spend 2 sorcery points to ignite the creature in magical blue flames. The creature takes 1d4 fire damage at the start of each of its turns, unless it or another creature uses an action to extinguish the flames.
  • Mind Freeze. You may spend 3 sorcery points when you hit a creature with a single target spell attack to deal an additional 2d6 psychic damage to that creature. If that creature is concentrating on a spell or effect, that creature makes the saving throw with disadvantage.
  • Cover in Ice. You may spend 3 sorcery points when you hit a creature with a single target spell attack to reduce its movement speed by 10 feet. If the creatures movement speed is reduced to 0 as a result of this feature, they become frozen.

A frozen creature is hindered by ice formations and has its speed reduced to 0 for 1 minute, or until it or another creature within reach of it uses an action to break away the ice.

Frost March

6th-level Winter Soul feature

The ground beneath your feet starts to crystallize and freeze where ever you walk. As long as you are in contact with a surface and not unconscious, the area within a 5-foot radius sphere centered on you becomes under the effects of extreme cold, following you when you move and no longer effects areas you move out of. Any liquid freezes immediately as it enters your Frost March area, allowing you to walk across liquid surfaces such as water and acid freely, but not lava or other surfaces that are extremely hot.

Additionally, your group isn’t slowed by non-magical difficult terrain while traveling in artic regions or areas under the effects of extreme cold.

Summon Ice Elemental

14th-level Winter Soul feature

Your connection to the elemental plane of ice gives you the power to summon ice elementals. As an action, you magically summon an ice elemental that is bound to you. It appears in an unoccupied space of your choice within 30 feet of you.

The elemental is friendly to you and your companions, and it obeys your commands. See its game statistics in the accompanying Ice Elemental stat block. You can determine the cosmetic characteristics of the elemental, such as its color, appearance, or any visible effect of it's Frost Fell lineage; your choice has no effect on its game statistics.

In combat, the elemental shares your initiative count, but it takes its turn immediately after yours. You can command the elemental to take an action on it's turn (no action required by you), if no action is issued to the elemental, the only action it takes on its turn is the Dodge action. If you are incapacitated, the elemental can take any action of its choice, not just Dodge.

The elemental remains until it is reduced to 0 hit points or until you die. Anything the elemental was wearing or carrying is left behind when the elemental vanishes.

Once you summon the elemental, you can’t do so again until you finish a long rest.

Perpetual Winter

18th-level Winter Soul feature

Your connection to the magic of the Frost Fell deepens, granting you access to new features. The radius created by your Frost March extends to 10-feet, you gain immunity to cold damage, and spells you cast ignore immunities to cold damage.

Additionally, the first time you are reduced to 0 hit points but not killed outright, your body becomes encased in solid ice, protecting you from further harm. The ice is immune to all damage and melts away at the end of your next turn, while encased in ice you have total cover. When the ice melts, you heal for a number of hit points equal to your sorcerer level. You can’t use this feature again until you finish a long rest.
