Base Class: Fighter
Some say you have to have a gift in order to cast magic. The monks in their monasteries disproved that idea with their use of ki, and many folk who did not wish the ascetic lifestyle still wield that power. The Spellblade is a warrior who uses the raw, unfiltered essence of the Weave and stores it within themselves, releasing it in small but powerful bursts to creature a pseudo-spell, giving them a powerful edge.
Arcane Knowledge
At level 3, through your study of the Weave and the properties of spells, you gain proficiency in Arcana if you don't already have it
Weave Siphon
When you choose this archetype at level 3, you learn pseudo-spells siphoned from the power of the Weave that are fueled by a special set of dice called Surge Dice.
- Pseudo-Spells. You learn the art of pseudo-spells, which are detailed in the next section. Most pseudo-spells are quick to use, and most are either cast as a bonus action or reaction.
- Surge Dice. You have four Surge Dice. Whenever you cast a pseudo-spell, you roll surge dice to determine the damage or benefit of the ability. Each Surge Die is a 1d8. You gain an additional Surge Die at levels 7, 10, and 15. You recover any expended Surge Dice when you finish a short or long rest.
- Saving Throws and Spell Attacks. Some of your pseudo-spells require your target to make a saving throw to resist the effect. The saving throw DC is equal to 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Intelligence modifier. Your spell attack bonus is equal to your proficiency bonus + your Intelligence modifier.
Pseudo-Spells
You learn two pseudo-spells of your choice. Many maneuvers enhance an attack in some way. You can use only one maneuver per attack. You learn one additional pseudo-spell of your choice when you reach Fighter levels 7, 10, and 15.
Arcane Counter
When a creature misses you with a melee attack roll, you can use your reaction to harness energy from the Weave and enhance your combat reflexes. Expend one Surge Die to make a melee attack roll with a weapon against the creature. If you hit, add the Surge Die to the attack’s damage.
Beneficent Shield
As a bonus action, you reach out and pull together the protective arcane fibers of the Weave. Touch a willing creature and roll a Surge Die. The creature gains temporary hit points equal to double the amount rolled.
Empowered Strike
As a bonus action, make an off-handed melee attack as arcane Weave threads coil around your fist, and if the attack hits, roll a Surge Die. The target takes force damage equal to the amount rolled plus your Strength modifier, is pushed back 10 feet, and must make a Strength saving throw against your Intelligence save DC. On a failed save, the target gains the stunned condition until the start of its next turn.
Repelling Burst
As an action, you can roll up to 3 Surge Dice to create a 15-foot cone of pure arcane energy from the Weave. Creatures in the cone must make a Strength saving throw or be knocked back 15 feet, take force damage equal to the amount you rolled, and become knocked prone. On a successful save, a creature takes half damage, is pushed back 5 feet, and is not knocked prone.
Woven Armor
If you are hit with an attack or spell and take damage, you can use your reaction to shield the area of impact with a layer of protective, glass-like energy from the Weave. Expend a Surge Die and reduce the damage by an amount equal to what you rolled.
Student of the Weave
By level 7, you have spent a lot of time working with raw magical energy, and your experience in learning how to control it allows you to understand more intricate forms of magic. You can now cast Identify and Detect Magic as ritual spells.
Greater Pseudo-Spells
Starting at level 10, you've gained greater control over your manipulation of the Weave. When you roll your Surge Dice, you roll 1d10's instead of 1d8's.
Spell Eater
At level 15, you can now consume magical energy off of a spell cast at you. If you are forced to make a saving throw to avoid the effects of a spell and you succeed on the save, you regain one Surge Die.
Flow of the Weave
By level 18, your mastery of the Weave allows you to roll 1d12's instead of 1d10's when using your Surge Dice.
Additionally, your skills of bending the flow of the Weave to aid you in combat has become unparalleled. If you spend a Surge Die to use a pseudo-spell, you can immediately make an unarmed strike or a melee attack with your off-handed weapon either before or after the effects of the pseudo-spell. This attack does not count against your total number of weapon attacks per attack action.
This ability can be used a number of times equal to your proficiency modifier, and all uses are regained after a short or long rest.
