Fighter
Base Class: Fighter

The Desperado is a style of marksmanship that arose in the great lawless stretches of outback between distant realms. Characterized by its distinct lack of structure, disregard of safety, and prioritization of showmanship and dirty tricks over accuracy, mirroring the setting where it originated; style and reputation is everything. The culture and teachings are prevalent in outlaws, vigilantes, and most rarely, mercenaries and soldiers, which tend to prefer a more academic approach to combat. It is a culture passed down from father to son or from elders to the local children. It begins as a way to show off and play and it develops into a passion and lifestyle. Most people exposed to the Desperado Lifestyle at a young age grow up to be Bounty Hunters and outlaws, turning to a life of crime due to the thrill of it or due to circumstance. Either way they're popular in bars and pubs, often being the center of attention.

Most Desperados are known as womanizers, dirty fighters and drunkards. However, that is not the way of every Desperado. The Desperado has his own moral code and his own goals and ambitions. Everyone can be a Desperado, if they so choose.

Rootin' Tootin'

When you first pick this subclass at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with firearms. You also gain a number of Style Points equal to twice your Fighter Level, which may be spent on Tricks, with effects listed later in this document. You can only apply one Trick to an attack, unless a feature would allow you to add another.

Additionally, you select one marksmanship specialty that you benefit from:

Akimbo. Ranged weapons without the two-handed property you wield are considered to have the light property for the purposes of two weapon fighting.

Sharpshooter. When you make a critical hit, you can add an applicable Trick to that attack without expending Style Points.

Tricks

Below are Tricks you can take with this subclass. Each Trick has a Style Point cost listed, which you expend when you perform the Trick. Some Tricks have a level requirement, of which you must have at least that many fighter levels before you can use it.

Saving Throws. Some of your Tricks require your targets to make a saving throw to resist the Tricks effects. The saving throw DC is calculated as follows:

Trick save DC = 8 + your Dexterity Modifier + your proficiency bonus + the attack modifier of your firearm

Level 3 Tricks:

Ratchet (Varies):
You spend a number of Style Points up to your proficiency bonus and make a firearm attack. On a hit, the target's AC is reduced by an amount equal to the number of Style Points spent plus your dexterity modifier until the end of the turn, or you miss an attack against it.

Parry (2 Style Points):
As a reaction when you are hit by an attack and are holding a loaded firearm, you can interrupt the attack by firing your weapon into it. Make an attack with the firearm, against no target. If your attack roll is higher, the attack against you misses and your attack targets the enemy that made it if within range. This can only be done against spell attacks if the firearm is a magic weapon.

Recoil (2 Style Points):
You designate a distance of up to 10 feet and make a firearm attack. You are pushed that distance away from your target and on a hit, your target is pushed that distance away from you.

Ricochet (1 Style Point):
Select an object or a point on a surface within range. You make a firearm attack, as if from that position instead, deflecting your bullet off that surface to hit your target.

Cap Knees (2 Style Points):
You make a firearm attack. On a hit, the target must succeed a dexterity saving throw or fall prone.

Head Ringing (1 Style Point):
You make a firearm attack. On a hit, the target must succeed on a constitution saving throw, or become deafened until the end of your next turn. The target cannot speak coherently while deafened this way.

Hattrick

Your familiarity with tricks have given you a certain charm. You gain proficiency with the performance skill if you don't already have it.

Whenever you do a trick out of combat, you gain advantage on your next Charisma (Performance, intimidation) check provided the target saw it.

Additional Tricks

You gain more options for your Style Points:

Level 7:

Ricoshot (3 Style Points):
You make a firearm attack. If the attack hits, you can choose another target as if from that position. Make a firearm attack against the new target. If the original target was a creature, this attack is made at disadvantage, and has a range of only 10 feet. If both targets are hit, they both have disadvantage on the next attack they make until the end of your next turn. Only the first attack consumes ammunition.

Down to Earth (3 Style Points):

As a reaction when a creature begins falling from a height greater than 10 feet, you make a firearm attack against them. On a hit, they are pushed 30 feet in a direction of your choice, cannot take reactions or movement to prevent the fall and take twice the amount of damage from it.

Look ma, not lookin'! (2 Style Points):

You make a firearm attack, subtracting your Proficiency Bonus as you look away from your opponent while shooting. On a hit, you gain a Style Point and your target takes additional damage equal to your Proficiency Bonus

Reload Slide

Whenever you use your Second Wind, you can reload the firearm(s) you are holding, and move up to half your movement without provoking attacks of opportunity.

Even more Tricks!

You gain more Tricks:

Level 10:

Vanishing Weapon (3 Style Points):

You spend a Style Point and attempt to confuse the enemy by making your weapon seemingly invisible and switching it between your hands. Until the end of your turn, your attacks cannot have disadvantage

Smokeful Powder (5 Style Points):
You make a firearm attack. You create a 10-foot-radius Sphere of smoke centered on you or the target of the attack. The Sphere is Heavily Obscured. It lasts until the end of your next turn or until a strong wind disperses it.

Mag Dump (4 Style Points):
When you take the ready action to attack, you can use your extra attack feature when it is triggered. These attacks are not applicable for Tricks.

Fool me once...

You can add another Trick to each attack you make with a Trick. Whichever Trick expends more Style points, is the cost of the sum Trick.

You guessed it: More Tricks!

You gain more Tricks:

Level 15:

Numbing Wound (6 Style Points):

This trick can only be used once per turn. Make a firearm attack against a creature. On a hit, the target must make a Constitution Saving throw. On a fail, they are Incapacitated until the end of your next turn.

Russian Stratagem (10 Style Points):
When you reload a firearm, you add only one piece of ammunition. The next time you attempt to attack with it within 8 hours, you roll a die equal to the reload score of the firearm. On a 1, the firearm fires normally, and the damage roll of the attack is multiplied by the firearm’s reload score, empowered by your luck. On any other number, the firearm fails to fire, and the attack is wasted. The damage roll is unaffected if any effect would make the attack taking place certain.

Birdshot (6 Style Points):
You make a firearm attack. On a hit, the target is pushed 10 feet into the air.

Luck of Luke

When you roll initiative, you can make an attack with a firearm. If more than one creature in initiative has this feature, it resolves in the order of initiative.

Final Tricks

You gain even more tricks:

Level 18:

Blood Iron (6 Style Points):
When you kill a hostile creature with a firearm attack, you can immediately reload the firearm.

100 Straight (5 Style Points):
You make a firearm attack against a flying creature. On a hit, until the end of the turn, or the creature stops flying, whichever comes first, you have advantage on subsequent attacks against that creature.
