Fighter
Base Class: Fighter

The Avenger represents the pinnacle of heroic idealism—a warrior who fights not for personal gain, but because justice demands action. These elite combatants have mastered the art of shield warfare, turning a defensive tool into a weapon of incredible versatility. With their iconic shield in hand, an Avenger can strike down enemies at range, deflect deadly attacks, and create openings for their allies to exploit.

What sets Avengers apart from other fighters is their unwavering commitment to protecting others and their natural ability to inspire courage in the darkest moments. They are tactical geniuses who can coordinate devastating team assaults, legendary defenders who seem nearly impossible to kill, and charismatic leaders whose mere presence on the battlefield can turn a rout into victory. When an Avenger calls for a charge, allies follow without hesitation, knowing that this warrior will shield them from harm and lead them to triumph.

In combat, Avengers are dynamic and adaptable. They seamlessly blend offense and defense, using their shield as both protection and projectile. Their mastery allows them to ricochet their shield between multiple enemies before it returns to their grasp, creating spectacular battlefield displays that demoralize foes and energize allies. As they grow in power, their defensive capabilities become the stuff of legend—surviving attacks that would fell lesser warriors and rising again when all seems lost.

Beyond their combat prowess, Avengers serve as the moral compass of any adventuring party. They make the hard choices, stand up to bullies and tyrants, and never back down when innocents are threatened. They embody the classical hero archetype: selfless, determined, and utterly committed to doing what's right, regardless of the personal cost.

Whether you're diving into a dungeon, facing an army of undead, or confronting a corrupt noble, having an Avenger at your side means having someone who will never give up, never leave you behind, and always find a way to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

Avengers are elite warriors who have dedicated themselves to protecting the innocent and upholding justice at any cost. Masters of shield combat and tactical warfare, they lead from the front lines and inspire their allies through deed and word. An Avenger fights not for glory or gold, but because it's the right thing to do.

Level 3: Shield Mastery

You have trained extensively in the art of shield combat. You gain the following benefits:

  • You can use a shield as a light melee weapon and as a light thrown weapon with a range of 30/60 feet. It deals 1d6 + your Strength modifier bludgeoning damage and has the returning property (it flies back to your hand immediately after hitting or missing).
  • When you make a ranged attack with your shield, you don't suffer disadvantage for being within 5 feet of a hostile creature.
  • As a bonus action after throwing your shield, you can make one melee weapon attack against a creature within 5 feet of you.

Level 3: Tactical Leader

Your presence on the battlefield bolsters your allies' resolve. When you use your Action Surge, you can choose a number of allies equal to your proficiency bonus within 30 feet of you who can see or hear you. Those allies can immediately use their reaction to move up to their speed and make one weapon attack.

Level 7: Shield Ricochet

When you throw your shield and hit a target, you can ricochet it to strike additional foes. Make additional ranged attack rolls against up to 2 creatures within 15 feet of the original target. Each creature can only be targeted once per turn by this feature. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

  • Your shield strikes count as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage.

Level 10: Unyielding Defense

Your defensive prowess is legendary. You gain the following benefits:

  • When you take damage, you can use your reaction to reduce the damage by 1d10 + your Fighter level + your Constitution modifier. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
  • You have advantage on saving throws against being frightened or charmed.
  • When you are reduced to 0 hit points but not killed outright, you can drop to 1 hit point instead. You can't use this feature again until you finish a long rest.

Level 15: Rally the Team

Your inspiring words can turn the tide of battle. As an action, you can give a rousing speech that affects all allies within 60 feet who can hear you. For the next minute, affected allies gain the following benefits:

  • They have advantage on attack rolls and saving throws.
  • They gain temporary hit points equal to your Fighter level + your Charisma modifier at the start of each of their turns.
  • They are immune to being frightened.

Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest.

Level 18: Master Avenger

You have become the ultimate symbol of justice and protection. You gain the following benefits:

  • Your shield attacks deal an additional 1d6 damage.
  • When you hit with a shield ricochet attack, the target must make a Strength saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Strength modifier) or be knocked prone.
  • Once per turn, when you reduce a hostile creature to 0 hit points, you regain one expended use of your Unyielding Defense feature.
  • Your Rally the Team feature recharges on a short rest instead of a long rest.
