Fighter
Base Class: Fighter

“You already died once. Now every shot you take drags another soul a step closer to the grave.”

Grimslingers are fighters who have been torn apart by death and stitched back together by dark forces. Their reforged bodies thrum with necromantic energy, which they channel through their firearms to strike down foes. A Grimslinger is more than a marksman: they are a harbinger, every bullet carrying whispers from beyond the grave.

When you choose this archetype, consider how you were remade. Did a desperate necromancer piece you back together from a battlefield? Did you strike a bargain with a deathless patron to walk again? Were you the subject of a cruel experiment, or did you force your own soul to claw back into your body? However it happened, your second life is bound to a gun and the grim magic that fuels it.

Grimslingers walk many paths. Some stride into town as protectors, cutting down monsters with spellbound lead. Others ride as outlaws and killers, feared as much for their supernatural aura as their guns. Whatever the story, to cross a Grimslinger’s sights is to wager your soul.

Level 3: Stitched Arsenal

The magic that rebuilt you surges through your guns, turning each shot into a vessel for necrotic power.

  • You gain proficiency with firearms (see Dungeon Master’s Guide).
  • Once per turn when you hit a creature with a firearm attack, you can deal an additional 1d4 necrotic damage. This damage increases to 1d6 at 8th level, 1d8 at 12th level, and 1d10 at 17th level.
  • Your firearm attacks count as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage.

Level 3: Death's Recoil

The necrotic bindings within your body lash outward when you fire. Choose one of the following when you hit a creature with a firearm attack:

  • Gravebound Shot. Use a bonus action to force that creature to succeed on a Strength saving throw (DC 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier) or be pushed 10 feet away or pulled 10 feet toward you (your choice).
  • Stitched Vitality. Expend one of your Hit Dice and roll it. You regain hit points equal to the number rolled + your Constitution modifier.

Level 7: Warding Glyphs

The runes and sutures carved into your body flare when you are struck.

  • You gain resistance to necrotic damage.
  • When a creature within 30 feet damages you, you can use your reaction to mark it with a spectral brand until the end of your next turn. The next firearm attack you make against that creature has advantage and deals additional necrotic damage equal to your proficiency bonus.

Level 10: Ghastly Barrage

Your bullets fracture into echoes of necrotic energy.

  • Once per turn when you hit a creature with a firearm attack, you can choose another creature of your choice within 10 feet of the original target. That creature takes necrotic damage equal to half the damage dealt to the first creature.
  • In addition, your body rallies against death. When you roll initiative and have no uses of Second Wind remaining, you regain one use.

Level 15: Reaper's Mark

Your shots scar the soul as much as the flesh.

  • When you hit a creature with a firearm attack, you can use a bonus action to mark it with a soul-curse for 1 minute. You can only have one creature marked at a time.
  • While cursed, the first time each turn you deal damage to the creature, it takes an additional 1d8 necrotic damage.
  • If the cursed creature drops to 0 hit points before the mark ends, you can immediately mark another creature you can see within 30 feet of the fallen one.

You can do this a number of times equal to your Constitution modifier (minimum of 1). You recover any expended uses when you complete a long rest.

Level 18: Bullet to the Soul

Your mastery over death-forged gunplay lets your bullets ricochet through the very essence of your enemies.

  • When you reduce a creature to 0 hit points with a firearm attack, you can immediately make another firearm attack against a different creature within range as part of the same action.
  • This chained attack can trigger again if that attack also reduces a creature to 0 hit points, but you can make no more than three chained attacks on a single turn.
  • In addition, once per turn when you hit with a firearm attack, you can cause necrotic energy to ricochet into another creature of your choice within 15 feet of the target. That creature takes necrotic damage equal to your proficiency bonus + Constitution modifier.
