Base Class: Monk
Dedicated to the connection of all living things, Way of the Spider monks are given special abilities through their training and devotion to Aranea but there is one stipulation they must never break. A Way of the Spider monk must never kill a sentient and mortal being, as all such beings are connected to the Web of Life, and all of their lives are sacred. A monk of this path does not have to intervene in every death they see, and they can acknowledge in extreme circumstances when that death might be necessary, but they cannot deal that killing blow.
Bonus Proficiencies
Way of the Spider Monks are proficient with Whips and can use them as Monk weapons. Most Way of the Spider monks fight using specialized bracers that mount their whips under their hands. Way of the Spider Monks also must be able to use their words to seek non-violent resolutions when possible to protect the sanctity of life. As such at 3rd level when taking this subclass you can take proficiency in either Perception, Persuasion, or Insight.
Insight
You take Proficiency in Insight.
Perception
Take proficiency in Perception.
Persuasion
Take proficiency in Persuasion.
Ensnare
As you train with a whip, you learn how to spend a ki-points to enhance attacks with your whip. You can spend 1 point to Ensnare a target, pulling them 10 feet closer to you provided they are no more then one size larger then you.
Web-Awareness
Like a spider sensing the vibrations of their web, you are able to sense the people around you and how they are connected to the Web of Life. Your senses have been honed to allow you to do this, giving you advantage on initiative rolls and blindsight within 20 feet(only applies to living beings). In addition, you cannot be surprised by living creatures and have advantage on dexterity saves against living creatures.
Disarm
At level 6 you learn another way to modify a whip attack using Ki. You can spend 2 points to attempt to Disarm a target as a bonus action after a successful attack, and they must make a strength saving throw against your Ki-save DC.
Spider-Climb
At 11th level Spiders gain the ability to not only run up vertical surfaces, but harness their powers to allow them to stick the surfaces unaided. They can cast spider-climb on themselves at will. In addition, they can grapple enemies who are below them or pulled up to them using acrobatics instead of athletics.
Spectacular Defense
At 17th level, your awareness of the world around you makes your defenses superhuman. On your turn, you can spend a ki-point to dodge as a free action. Alternatively, you can also apply dodge to a single attack or dexterity saving throw as a reaction. If you dodge a melee attack this way, or use deflect missiles and catch whatever you were targeted with, you can spend a ki-point to immediately make a retaliatory attack.
