Base Class: Monk
A monk who studies this tradition has devoted their life to manifesting and manipulating vibratic energies. Such energies typically come from a focus tied to a particular sound that an individual found very powerful. Whether it is powerful in terms of bringing out strong emotions or in terms of historical significance, this sound (or series of sounds) has greatly impacted the individual.
Types of Vibratic Energies
The source of inspiration of a monk of this tradition has a wide range of possibilities. Perhaps it is a song or instrument the monk finds moving or sentimental. Perhaps it is a famous speech they heard that ended war or started an uprising in an oppressive kingdom that directly impacted the monk. Or it is something more sinister like screams of anguish begging for mercy the monk finds amusing.
Studying Sound
In studying the vibratic energy, a monk of this tradition is usually generally, if not completely, alone. This is because the nature in which the vibratic energy manifests, and the focus of the energy, is personal to the monk thus making it hard to find a mentor. In addition, it is hard to get teaching in this tradition as the most strenuous part of studying this tradition is gaining the mental strength to summon and control powerful waves of destructive energy. This often requires lots of meditation and dedication to the craft to do successfully which isn’t particularly something that can be taught, only learned. However there are still various temples where one can go for guidance. As guidance in their craft is hard to come by, if not impossible, “guidance” in these temples is usually some type of relaxation or a release of inner feelings that could prevent progression. As such, many of this tradition have training in counseling. Simple exercises to remove stress, keep a keen mind, and to stay focused on your goals.
Vibratic Fist
You have mastered a basic art of surrounding your fists with vibrations. You can make these vibrations strong enough to damage enemies. When you make an unarmed strike and hit, you may choose to deal thunder damage or force damage instead of bludgeoning. If you do the sound is audible from up to 100 ft away.
Booming Defense
When you spend a Ki point to activate Patient Defense, you may coat your body with a thin layer of vibratic energy. You may spend an additional Ki point and creatures who miss attacks against you while they are in melee range with you take 1d4 thunder or force damage (your choice).
Echo Body
You gain resistance to thunder and force damage
Speed of Sound
When you would use your movement, and are not prone, you may instead spend 2 Ki points to charge your legs with powerful vibrations. You may teleport a distance up to your walking speed. This does not provoke attacks of opportunity. When you do, either targets within 5 ft of your starting position or ending position (your choice) must succeed a Dex save against your Ki DC or take 1d10 thunder or force damage (your choice). Using this counts as using all of your movement regardless of how far you teleport.
Distant Vibes
When you would make an unarmed strike that deals thunder or force damage, your range with that attack increases by 5 ft. At 11th level they extend 10 ft and then 15 ft at 17th level.
Quaking Body
Your body has grown familiar with the vibrations surrounding your body and has adapted to use them to cushion certain types of damage. You are immune to thunder and force damage.
Booming Fist
Unarmed strikes that deal thunder and force damage ignore resistance and immunity to their damage type.
Echo Aura
You can spend 6 Ki points as an action to concentrate the vibratic energies around you. For one minute you gain the following benefits:
- All unarmed strikes have the Reach property
- When you deal thunder damage, the target of the attack makes a Constitution save against your Ki DC. On a fail they are deafened until the end of your next turn.
- When you deal force damage, the target of the attack must succeed a Dexterity save against your Ki DC or be pushed back 5ft and be knocked prone
- You have advantage on all attacks that deal thunder damage against deafened creatures
- Speed of Sound costs 1 Ki point instead of two
- Creatures that start their turn in, or enter a space within 10 ft of you take 1d4 thunder or force damage (your choice). In addition they must succeed a Constitution saving throw or become deafened until the end of their next turn
- Due to the extreme vibrations, you automatically fail all stealth checks
Vibratic Burst
When you are in your Echo Aura, you may use your action to end it by making your aura explode, damaging enemies around you. All creatures in a 30ft radius around you must make a Constitution save against your Ki DC taking 6d6 thunder damage and 6d6 force damage or half as much on a success. Targets that fail are deafened and stunned until the end of your next turn.
Improved Echo Aura
When you would activate Echo Aura, you may spend 8 Ki points instead of 6. If you do activate Echo Aura as a bonus action instead of an action. In addition anytime an enemy becomes deafened while in you Echo Aura, they also become stunned until the end of your next turn.
Perfect Vibe
Once per long rest, you may activate Echo Aura as an action without using Ki points.
