Wizard
Base Class: Wizard

The School of Planes specializes in the various magics used for teleportation and planar travel. Unlike the School of Conjuration, students of this school learn about the different kinds of portals and planes instead of conjuring various objects and creatures without foreknowledge about what and where summons are from. When it comes to specializing in a specific type of magic, wizards who specialized in teleportation will always be seen as a vital asset.

Planar Studies

Beginning when you select this school at second level, your studies taught you the nuances of your arcane specialty. Whenever you make an Intelligence check related to portals, teleportation or lore about the planes, you can add twice your proficiency bonus, instead of any proficiency bonus you normally apply. In addition, you learn two languages of your choice.

Analyze Portal

Starting at 2nd level, as part of your studies, you've learned how to safely analyze various kinds of portals. You can spend a minute to learn the following properties about a portal you can see within 30 feet of you:

  • The name of the portal's destination.
  • The type of travel the portal provides (i.e. one way or two way, and single use or multiple use).
  • If the portal requires a command word or another method to use. If so, what is required to use the portal.
  • Information about the creation of the portal.
  • Other notable properties about the portal (i.e. multiple destinations, applied wards, or duration).

If the portal's destination cycles or is random, only the current destination is known. Portals that are protected against divination, or if the portal is unstable; might have some of the properties hidden, unknown, or require an Intelligence (Arcana) check (DC determined by DM). Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

Traveler's Step

At 6th level, when you cast a spell of 1st level or higher, you can teleport up to 15 feet to an unoccupied space that you can see. You can teleport before, or after the spell takes effect.

Dual Concentration

Beginning at 10th level, concentrating on conjuration spells comes easy to you, allow you to concentrate on another spell. You can concentrate on two spells at once, as long as one of the spells is a Conjuration spell. After which, you must use your action on subsequent turns to maintain concentration on both spells, or at the end of your turn, choose one of the spells to end. While you're concentrating on two spells, if you cast a spell that requires concentration, you must immediately choose one of the spells that you're currently concentrating on to end. Whenever you make a Constitution saving throw to maintain concentration due to damage, the DC equals 10 + the spell level of both spells, or half the damage you take, whichever is higher. On a failure, you lose concentration on both spells.

Planar Grounding

Starting at 14th level, you add the Plane Shift spell to your spellbook, if it is not already there. Choose a plane that you have been on for at least a month to be designated as your home plane. Anytime you cast Plane Shift to return to your home plane, you ignore the material components for the casting. In addition, you can cast Plane Shift without expending a spell slot once per long rest.
