Bard
Base Class: Bard

An Evangel of Norella is a Bard who in addition to focusing on the Social sphere, specializes in combining allies' actions in Combat. The Evangel openly worships her and tends to focus on supportive and healing magic available to Bards. The Evangel is an advocate for peace and reconciliation, both in regards to the divine conflict between the Sun God and the World Serpent, and in every day matters. The Evangel excels in speaking with others, inspiring those in need and ensuring their allies are able to continue on despite their foes' actions. While other Bards performances are focused on personal goals or a patron's desires, the Evangel of Norella is focused on resolving the divine conflict.

Play an Evangel of Norella if...

  • You want to bring people together and find common ground.
  • You want to support others beyond the normal range of Bardic Inspiration and spells.
  • You want to enable your allies to achieve things that they normally could not.
  • You imagine your Bard as a member of a religious order who goes out into the world to promote peace and understanding.

Building an Evangel of Norella: Like all Bards, focus on Charisma first. While other Bards can neglect their other mental stats, an Evangel should also focus on Wisdom. All heroes can benefit from Constitution. Evangels are not likely to be on the front lines, and can neglect Strength; however, if you want to engage in melee, do not neglect Strength or Dexterity, depending on your weapon of choice.

Evangelism

When you choose this subclass at Level 3, you gain proficiency in Religion (or another skill if you are already proficient in Religion.) In addition, you may use a Holy Symbol of Norella as your spell focus. As an Evangel, you have studied the religious history and mythology of Aryssa.

Healing Psalms

Your Inspiration is created through magical religious psalms, and the magical energies contained within can be used to restore those who would be gravely wounded.

When you choose this subclass at Level 3, when you use Bardic Inspiration on a creature, instead of granting Bardic Inspiration, you may roll that Bardic Inspiration die to have that creature regain that many Hit Points plus your Wisdom modifier (minimum 1 Hit Point of healing.) In addition, if a creature under the effect of your Bardic Inspiration would be reduced to 0 hit points, you or that creature may spend a Reaction to roll that Bardic Inspiration die and regain that many Hit Points plus your Wisdom Modifier (minimum 1 Hit Point.)

Teaming Psalms

Starting at 6th Level, while a creature has one of your Bardic Inspiration dice, you or that creature may use the Help Action from up to 60 feet away to Help the other. You and creatures with your Bardic Inspiration dice may use this ability a number of times equal to your Proficiency Modifier + your Wisdom Modifier. You regain any expended uses with a Long Rest. In addition, if the creature chooses to help you, it may roll the Bardic Inspiration die to add to your roll, and if it does so, it may use Help as a Bonus Action instead of an Action.

In addition, as a Reaction, you or the inspired creature, may roll the Bardic Inspiration die to add to a Saving Throw made by you or the inspired creature. You or the inspired creature can wait until after the Saving Throw is rolled, but must decide to use the Bardic Inspiration die before the DM says whether the roll succeeds or fails.

Magical Reconciliation

Starting at 6th Level, you add Calm Emotions and Bless to your list of Spells Known. These are Bard spells for you.

Channel Divinity: Norella's Grace

Starting at 14th level, you gain the ability to channel divine energy directly from Norella, using that energy to fuel magical effects. You must then finish a short or long rest to use your Channel Divinity again. Beginning at 6th level, you can use your Channel Divinity twice between rests, and beginning at 18th level, you can use it three times between rests. When you finish a short or long rest, you regain your expended uses.

Channel Divinity: Norella's Inspiration

As an action, you present your holy symbol and speak a psalm of inspiration. You may then assign as many Bardic Inspiration dice as you choose among creatures you could normally target with Bardic Inspiration. In addition, each of these creatures regains Hit Points equal to your Proficiency Bonus + your Wisdom Modifier (minimum 1), and may make a Saving Throw with Advantage to end any condition on them. That Saving Throw gains a bonus equal to your Wisdom Modifier.

Channel Divinity: Norella's Reconciliation

As an action, you present your holy symbol and speak a psalm of reconciliation. You may retrieve as many Bardic Inspiration dice as you choose from among creatures you could normally target with Bardic Inspiration. You regain Hit Points equal to your Proficiency Modifier and additional Hit Points for each Bardic Inspiration die you retrieve equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum 1). For example, if you are 14th Level with a +5 Proficiency modifier and 16 Wisdom, and recover two dice, you regain 5 Hit Points (Proficiency) + 6 Hit Points (Wisdom modifier per die retrieved.)
