Monk
Base Class: Monk

Monks who train in the way of the Spell Breaker have various reasons for joining but it normally comes down to a single ideal. Magic is dangerous and powerful and should either be eliminated or regulated. In the wrong hands it can be devastating and destructive, wiping whole cities off the map. In others it can restore health, cure illness and save lives.

The Spell Breakers strive for equality and most do not want magic to cease to exist. They train themselves to make sure no magic caster becomes too powerful that they cannot be stopped by those not gifted with the arcane or divine blessings. Most are happy to help maintain order but some monks become fanatical in their belief that no magic should be trusted. Monks who follow this zealotry often become assassins or mercenaries, specialising in defeating any magical foe.

Deflect Cantrip

Starting at 3rd level, you can use your reaction to deflect or catch a projectile based ranged cantrip. When you do so, the damage you take from the attack is reduced by 1d10 + your Dexterity modifier + your monk level.

If you reduce the damage to 0, you can catch the projectile if it is small enough for you to hold in one hand and you have at least one hand free. If you catch a cantrip in this way, you can spend 1 ki point to make a ranged attack with the spell you just caught, as part of the same reaction. You make this attack with proficiency, regardless of your weapon proficiencies, and the cantrip counts as a monk weapon for the attack, which has a normal range of 20 feet and a long range of 60 feet.

Magic Nullification

As a reaction you can cast Counterspell using your monk save DC. The levels of Counterspell you can cast increases depending on your monk level. You may also spend Ki points as part of the same reaction to increase the level of the spell. You can use this ability an amount of times equal to your proficiency modifier and regain all uses after a long rest.

At Monk level 7 you can cast at 4th level (2 Ki points). Monk level 9 at 5th level (3 Ki points). Monk level 11 at 6th level (4 Ki points). Monk level 13 at 7th level (5 Ki points). Monk level 15 at 8th level (6 Ki points). Monk level 17 at 9th level (8 Ki points).

Magic Expulsion

On a successful unarmed attack, you may utilise your Ki to force magic out of your opponent. Your target must succeed on a constitution saving throw using your monk DC. on a fail, you cause your target to consume a spell slot as the magic is forced out of them from the opposite side (From their back if striking from the front or vice versa)

You may only do this once per turn and can only force the consumption of 1 spell slot. The level is determined by the amount of Ki points used.

2 Ki points for a level 1 slot. 4 Ki points for a level 2 slot. 6 Ki points for a level 3 slot and 8 points for a level 4 slot.

You cannot spent more than 8 Ki points as part of this move.

The magic is expelled in either a 15ft cone or 30ft long 5ft wide line (your choice) and deals 1d6 for each level of spell slot consumed (max of 4d6) The damage type is determined by the DM or monster type.

If the target succeeds on the saving throw you regain half the Ki points used but the target is unaffected.

Magic Denial

At level 17 you can spend 5 Ki points to create a 10ft radius of anti magic centred on yourself. The field lasts for 1 minute, moves with you and does not effect any magical items you have attuned. Your unarmed strikes are still considered magical for the duration.

Area of effect spells are affected by the field and any spells that are already affecting you are nullified (including beneficial spells)

Consumable healing items will work while you project the field but magical healing will have no effect.
