The Trial of the Grasses. A character obtains witcher mutations by undergoing a ritual known as the Trial of the Grasses, in which potent and deadly potions infuse their bodies with monstrous properties. Less than 3 out of every 10 people subjected to The Grasses survive the agonizing process, and it is not a dignified death when it goes awry.

Your DM may require your character to undergo the Trial of the Grasses as a prerequisite to choosing this feat, which can be modeled mechanically by a series of death saving throws using the Meatgrinder DC variation (DC 15) found in the Tomb of Annihilation.

"For two days more did symptoms not subside. The child's skin, hitherto drenched in sweat, grew dry and hot, the pulse ceased to be full and firm — albeit remaining of average strength, slow rather than fast. No more did he wake, nor did he scream. Finally, came the seventh day. The male awoke and opened his eyes, and his eyes were those of a viper..."

You have survived an alchemical process that has bonded monster mutagens to your body. You gain the following features:

Enhanced Body. Your Strength, Dexterity and Constitution scores all increase by 2, and your maximum for these scores also increase by 2.

Keen Senses. You have advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight, hearing or smell.

Muted Emotions. You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed or frightened

Poison Resistance. You have resistance to poison damage, and advantage on saving throws against being poisoned

Regeneration. Whenever you recover hit points, you recover an additional number of hit points equal to your Constitution modifier (Up to your hit point maximum).

Sign Magic. You have a pool of energy that you can call upon to cast a modified version of the following spells as "signs". You can draw from this pool a number of times equal to your Constitution modifier each short or long rest to cast any of the following spells. You may also choose to expend more than one use of this ability to cast the associated spell at a higher level (e.g. 3 uses to cast Quen as 3rd-level false life). Constitution is your spellcasting ability score for these spells, and when cast this way, these signs have only somatic components. If you have spell slots, you may also cast these spells using a spell slot of the appropriate level:

Aard (thunderwave) | Axii (command)* | Heliotrope (absorb elements) | Igni (burning hands) | Quen (false life) | Somne (sleep) | Yrden (protection from evil and good)

*Axii (command) does not require the target to understand the language you speak, but it does require both verbal and somatic components.

Slowed Aging. Your natural lifespan doubles, and you age at half the speed you normally would.

Sterility. You are unable to bear children naturally.
