So I'm attempting a broad homebrew rule allowing all martials to get a certain number of maneuvers and dice. You get maneuver dice equal to your proficiency bonus, and (in this case) learn a maneuver at every odd level.
The dice part was easy; limited options, set to proficiency, and after testing it works.
The problem is feat options.
After creating the feat, you can go back to edit the Basic Information and change the number in the "Total Number of Feat Options User Can Select" field. As I based my modified feat on Martial Adept, this was set to 2. I can't make the level progression I want work, so basically I intended to go back and edit the feat every time the player gained a level that granted a maneuver. I decided to test this first to make sure I was working with the correct variable. After correction (I tried both 1 and 4 on seperate occasions) and relogging in order to reset the cache ( a tip found on these forums when I tried to google the problem) when I added the modified feat to a character, it gave 2 maneuver options every time, regardless of whether I set it to 1, 2, or 4.
I'd like confirmation I'm actually working with the correct variable. And then to figure out how it works. The list of available maneuvers aren't even showing up anywhere in the Feat (the real feat or a modified feat based on the real feat) and I'd like to not have to create it from scratch because that would involve figuring out the mechanics of each maneuver without being able to see how the maneuvers mechanically work.
Gah. Okay, apparently it was a time thing. Logging out by itself isn't sufficient; I have to actually wait time before it updates (on the server, maybe?) Immediately after posting this I went back to continue tinkering and there, magically, my character was able to select 4 maneuvers.
So to answer my own question, I've got the relevant variable.
Now does anyone know how to set it to a progression so that every time they level I don't have to update the feat to grant them a new maneuver?
I have recently come up with the same idea as yours and would like to ask if you ever figured out how to grant them a new maneuver with a progression system. So I don't have to update the feat every time they reach a level
Feats don't have any kind of level progression. You'll have to adjust the feat you've already made at those higher levels, or make a new copy for those higher levels.
You can always make a duplicate feat and add level option as a prerequisite as well as having the previous feat as a prerequisite and just allow your players to just add in the duplicates as they get to that level from the manage feat option on character sheet
