My fighter has 20 Dex and the dueling fighting style and is wielding a rapier. Damage is 1d8+7 which makes sense - my +5 Dex modifier +2 for Dueling. So far so good. But if I wield a handaxe, I would expect to see my dmg drop to 1d8+5, right? The text says:
When you are wielding a melee weapon in one hand and no other weapons, you gain a +2 bonus to damage rolls with that weapon.
The dmg indicator next to my rapier stays at 1d8+7 even while wielding another weapon.
the character sheet doesn't have full instructions yet, so I understand the confusion.
It's a bit different to a videogame, so clicking WIELD on a weapon in your inventory doesn't actually mean your character is currently wielding it, along with every other weapon that you have hit WIELD on. You can, for example, click WIELD on 8 different weapons and the character sheet adds them all to the attack section. Clicking WIELD does just that - displays an attack for that weapon in the attacks section of the character sheet.
It's like a paper character sheet, in that your attacks section will note down all of the various weapons and attacks that your character may have - it doesn't mean that they are all being used (or can be used) simultaneously.
What the character sheet IS doing is, is showing you the attack you would have if you were wielding just that one weapon.
Note - you can click on weapons in the attacks section and designate them as offhand. Having a designated offhand weapon will prevent any other weapon in the attacks section from displaying the bonus damage from the duelling style.
