One of my homebrew archetypes was recently approved (The Way of the Yamabushi) and I started working on it again using the feedback I've received from playtesters. But I'm now getting this error:
This subclass cannot be published: This homebrew subclass has spells mapped to it that are licensed content or private homebrew, and cannot be requested to be published.
I did not add any spells to the updated version, I only removed some. And every linked spell is from the basic rules with the exception of absorb elements, which is from the Elemental Evil Player's Companion - a free resource that I had no problem using before. Testing to see if the EEPC is now "banned" from homebrew, I removed absorb elements, but that didn't remove the flag.
What has changed?
Additionally, I recommend that error message should specifically reference the offending content going forward so it's easier to track down and fix (or easier to discover if it's just a bug).
I've run into the same problem. The workaround I'm using is to remove the seemingly offending spells from the "Spells Added" section while keeping the tool tip references in the "Class Features" section. Hopefully they'll let up soon.
Yeah, but my problem is that I can't figure out what the offending spell is, and the rejection flag is less than helpful in its identification. And I don't want to remove every spell from every aspect of the class. Even if I were willing to do that, that screws things up in the character sheet since you can't add spells outside of what a class/archetype grants.
The confounding thing is that the first version was approved without issue, and I can't imagine why this version is any different (unless its a glitch in their system).
I wish they'd allow us to link to any spells when creating homebrew, and have a flag for when people subscribe to it that it requires "the following spells" to work properly. It's a bit annoying to not be able to use specific spells from XGtE and other sources when creating homebrew intended for public playtesting and use.

Totally. Since references and tool tips are locked by the licenses you own anyway, I have no idea why they'd make this change.
