When creating a homebrew monster and using one of the 2024 statblocks from Scions of Elemental evil, for example the Pirate Captain, the Gear remains in the data.
Currently, as is, there is no way to add Gear to a monster with the Homebrew tools. This means if you wanted to change the weapons or armour of a creature the statblock would persist with the template monsters gear and display incorrect, unchangeable information.
I haven't been able to see one. It is data that is inaccessible from the homebrew tools. While I'd prefer to see an update to the encounter builder first, this is something that requires addressing.
Aye the homebrew tools haven't been updated for the new 2024 mechanics. Only real workaround is making a copy from scratch rather than as a template. In the Traits box detail the gear there.

Is there somewhere that updates like that are being announced?
Normally I would check the changelog, however there wasn't specific mention of the homebrew monster system being updated.
The changelog never details all updates. Only the very big things and, rare exceptions notwithstanding, usually only once every couple months or so.

I just noticed this today also, when trying to create a monster off the Skeleton stat block. Any workaround?

So a from scratch creation can get new gear?
There was a homebrew system update for monsters last week, so you should be able to change these now.
