How do i get the spell to scale per spell slot level? (adding a damage die when casting at a higher level) i have tried for hours, reloading the page, creating new characters to add the spell to check but nothing is working. I believe its a bug.
The best way to do this is to find an official spell that works in the way you want, then create a homebrew spell, using the official spell as the template - you can then see how it was designed and the spell scaling was implemented.
When making the spell at the bottom is "at higher levels scaling" following a checkbox. Click the box so it is checked.
To the right of that is a drop-down menu "higher level scaling type" click and choose "Spell Scale".
Make the spell and include a modifier for damage. For example if the damage was 3d6 force damage you would use: Add Modifier >> Type: Damage >> Sub-Type: Force >> Dice Count: 3 >> Die Type: d6.
Next where it says At Higher Levels click Add A Higher Level click this and use options: Scale Level Value: 1, Modifier To Scale: Damage - Force (3d6), Scale Effect: Additional Points, Dice Count: 1, Die Type: d6.
The spell will be made and deals 3d6 force damage at base level and an additional 1d6 for every level above the base. Change dice and damage types as necessary for your spell.
Hints:
You can "copy" spells that have effects you want, like Fireball, and see how it is made: this will teach you how to do these things for your own spells.
Many boxes and sections have little ? icons. Hover over these for a popup for information about that box/part.
