This might end up being more a feature request. I have a barbarian with belt of storm giant str, hammer of thunderbolt, gauntlets of over str. We just hit 20. My dm said it's okay to take the 4 more for my str. I can't get the str field to override with the 34. It seems capped at 30 no matter what.
The 5th edition rule set has a hard cap of 30 for ability scores, which that is reflected here in D&D Beyond. Down the track there will be ways to customise some of the core rules in order to override a default rule (raising ability scores or perhaps starting with different point buy allowances, etc.), however there is no timeline on when that will be available.
Basically, the rules don't say what happens above 30. Obviously we can guess, but it isn't official. And the character sheet is built around and limited by the official rules for now.
Thanks both of you I figured it might be just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing an override somewhere in it since we were allowing the cap break in our game not a huge deal wrote myself a note.
