I view d&d in more of the fun roleplay aspect so i like the image of a tank fixing up the parties armer hard at work while the ranger is just being all happy with their familiar, the rouge is trying to corrupt the young npc hanging out with the party, and the paladin is just acting like a tired mom to a dysfunctional family. Plus if they can blacksmith who's to say they can't make themselves a good set of armor.
