Playing in Rime of the Frostmaiden and i 100% have a character ready (Triton Paladin), but i was watching some Futurama and for some ******* reason i got the idea to play a "Christmas Elf that ******* hates christmas" for this game of Rime. I NEED SOME IDEAS AND HELP.
First Heres the concept im running with so far constructive criticism or ideas is needed/wanted. Rock Gnome - Artificer - Eventual Battlesmith. The Extra tinker stuff + Bag Of Holding i can flavor as the giant sack of toys is just perfect and at level 3 i can flavor the combat buddy as Rudolph the Mechadeer. He will have bells and his gear will be SUPER christmasy like full on bells that play christmas music (lightly) as he walks giving him disadvantage on stealth checks(worth it), he also REALLY hates christmas and only sticks with it because Santa saved his life and its a life debt. He will auto correct or immediately answer any questions about christmas and he has no control when he does it. He fully believes he is cursed and talks with a semi-thick boston accent. I've been trying to flavor his spells/infusions to be christmas related and its going great any ideas for this would be fan-******* tastic.
Now for those of you that are like "**** your concept lets here builds" I got no idea. I've heard to run crossbow + reload infusion + sharpshooter, but i also might wanna go melee, but GWM/PAM are pretty much out of the picture as a gnome. So then i thought about Warcaster Sword and Board and liked the thought. Any tips here would be great. Also if you have any idea what i could do for a christmasy themed weapon would be just amazing.
TL;DR - making a Artifcer Battlesmith elf - need christmas themed ideas for spells/weapons etc oh and his name is Jangles.
In this Post (and maybe some others in the thread) there are a lot of ideas you could reflavor a bit to suit your needs :)
As for builds: Yes Battlesmith reload crossbow/Sharpshooter works pretty well, but melee battlesmiths are a bit like Paladins , too. Only thing is you gotta have Warcaster or something if you want to cast AND wield sword and board - but your kinda like a paladin in this department.

As an artificer, either (or both) of your sword and board can be an infusion, and thus used as your focus. Warcaster is partially redundant for artificers.

Really? From what i've read on stuff A LOT OF PEOPLE are like "Warcaster" or "Sharpshooter/GWM". But warcaster is like the #1 everyone is like YES this 100%. But i mean...most of the artifcer's spells don't REALLY require concentration? And like you said the Infusion casting is 100% viable, i'll have to look more into it.
A lot of people have trouble thinking for themselves. War Caster is usually considered a MANDATORY MUST PICK for other spellcasters, so people assume it holds true for artificers. Some folks also have far more trouble holding concentration on their spells than others and enormously value the advantage on concentration saves War Caster offers. If your DM is extremely strict on concentration checks (in my admittedly limited experience with three other DMs, concentration checks get forgotten a lot), then consider War Caster. Elsewise I'd likely skip it on an artificer, especially since we already get proficiency to Con saves.

To be fair, War Caster is still nice for Artificers, specifically to help with concentration or allow spells for AoOs. It's just not necessary for casting while wielding two weapons / sword and board / two-handed weapon...
Yeah, I LOVED that dudes elf security idea and i'm using it somewhat for my guy. Plan on going Crossbow, would it be ....worth it or atleast how would it work if i got 2 hand crossbows could i fire one then fire the other? Kinda imagining a Matrix jump/dive and PEW PEW thing going on and it sort of fits the aesthetic.

Well, it depends. Which concentration-based spells are you wanting to base this build around? If you're going to be using your gun as your main weapon, (even more than you use spells) then Sharpshooter should be your go-to. If Concentration spells play a big role in your battle style, War Caster will be your go-to.
Mmm pretty much think I’m going crossbow but as he is a Rock Gnome I can’t use a heavy crossbow so I’m leaning toward light or 2 hand crossbows but that’s ******* 150g so
Point one should know: 2 ahnd Crossbows doesn't really work the way one would wish RAW. Dual wielding doesn't work with ranged weapons. You would need Crossbow expert - but even then you'd neet two magical Hand Crossbows if you want to use INT as the attack stat and it competes with the iron defender for the Bonus Action. But you could also use one with a shield for a bit more AC.
As the originator of 'Elf Security Idea', first of all: thanks. Heh, that character kinda ran away from me, but I like how he came out.
Second of all: go with a light crossbow, not a hand crossbow. The light bow means no shield, but it has a ton of extra range and with Repeating Shot, it doesn't need Crossbow Expert. With Enhanced Defense you can semi-eliminate the need for a shield anyways, especially if you spend most of your time fighting from a distance. As for a Christmas-themed crossbow? Dress it up with garlands and scenes of merry holidays, and have the "repeating" magic generate candy canes instead of bolts. Possibly from a gift-wrapped box magazine. The Enhanced Defense could itself be themed as gift-wrapping your armor with rune-scribed wrapping paper and ribbons to improve its defenses.

dude i gotta say i read every little bit and it was 100% exactly what i was looking for. ACES all around mate just ******* ACES 10/10. And yeah i figured on the Light Crossbow thing. Figured i'll probably go Sharpshooter and put a level or 2 into fighter for the "Archery" fighting style and the "Action Surge". As after level 5 Battlesmiths don't really gain all that much lol. Atm i have his crossbow Flavored as a Cherry Balsum Wood Crossbow with a silver plating engraved with "Naughty Slayer". All my infusions will add christmasy effects (much to the characters hatred) and i can't wait for it.
You could also go with a quarterstaff or spear, either of which looks like a candy cane. Spear and shield is a great combo for artificer melee before you fighter multiclass, and good enough even then.

I feel dumb since I already knew what was said here already. I don't know why I said warcaster and now I feel stupid :D
