So my party is doing a hex crawl for the next few sessions and we decided to buy a wagon and I gave it thin iron plates and arrow slits to allow ranged attacks from cover. The DM has said he will let me customize it further as we go.
My homebrew is terrible and really unbalanced and does literally nothing to explain the rules please don't look at it it's stuff like instantly killing someone and making their corpse a clone of you like a simulacrum but completely normal.

Casino Deck. My Drow pirate has a folding boat with a casino deck. Let me tell you, even if the module has a ship for the group to use, everyone prefers my folding boat. Plus i gain a few extra gold coins.
My Artificer joined the party at level 6 after my Cleric left. Because of this higher level start they came with a caravan that I decked out as a rolling workshop. Let me just dig out the description text which my DM was working from, hang on...
"You see a round-topped caravan riding low on its suspension. The caravan is pulled by two horses, one chestnut and the other dapple grey. At the driver's seat sits a teal tiefling with brass and steel legs wearing a fine leather coat, and across their lap lays what appears to be the handle and workings of a crossbow attached to a heavy bronze pipe. A chimney with a hat protrudes from the roof and the roof itself overhangs the driver's step by enough to keep the worst of the rain off. The sides of the caravan are painted a deep blue, the iron corners red, and stylised green jasmine vines with pink flowers are painted around the edges of the panels. One side of the caravan has a small curtained window, whilst the other side is emblazoned with gold writing:
Minno Nev City-Licensed Alchemist and Herbal Apothecarist Guild-Accredited Smith and Tinkerer Potions, Salves, Remedies and Preventives Knives Sharpened, Leather Repaired Artificial Limbs Built and Maintained
At the rear of the caravan are two steps to a door. As you place your hand on the handle a voice audible from ten feet away asks "are you sure you want to do that?" Inside the caravan you are met by a smell of coffee, acid, fresh bread, sulphur and herbs. You see cupboards and storage everywhere. To your right the windowless wall has a hinge in the middle suggesting it folds down to open out that side of the wagon, and next to that wall is a narrow bed. The covers of the bed are strapped down with a pair of belts. On the floor near the door you see a pair of rails sunk into the floor, and further in you see a hatch leading to an actual storage bilge. To your left is the wall with the window and this wall is festooned with cabinets and instrumentation. Between the cabinets is a folding stool on an arm. Past these on the left stands an overbuilt stove at the front of the caravan, its chimney running into the ceiling. Arrayed about the stove are alchemical glassware, cooking pots, and a brass and glass coffee press. Numerous lanterns hang from the ceiling, most with clear glass panels but some with crystal or coloured glass panels.
On one cabinet stands a photograph in a frame. The photograph shows a tiefling man and a human woman in their late twenties or early thirties posing before an empty wheelchair in the process of tilting onto its left side as two tiefling children scuffle on the floor to the right of it, the child on top has no legs. Shock and fury are just beginning to creep onto the mother's face, while the father is looking slightly upwards and suppressing a smirk. A plaque on the bottom of the frame reads "Dave Nev of the Guild of Leatherworkers, his wife Sara of the Guild of Weavers, and their children Minerva and Brian."
A lever is visible on the wall by the stove near to the head of the bed. Pulling it you see a small anvil roll out on the rails from beneath the bed and click into place in the central clearway. As the anvil locks in the whole bed rotates about an axle, the underside of the bed serving as a workbench. A winch handle swings the top half of the wall down on its hinge so that a person sat at the workbench might look out or serve customers from across the bench."
SOmehow someway. Build it so you can install your Homculus Servent as its "core" so the HS drives it for you whe need be. HS can be shaped in whatever method. and it can attune to things.
So eventually make it so you can plug your HS in to be the driver for your group. And somehow give it profiencies in tools (I assume there are probably items that give tools maybe).
Nothing better than a self driving vehicle you can call on demand and it'll come rescue you. Extra points if you have 3 in a warlock with the familiar so they can project your voice and command it at an even longer distance than normal HS. Alternative to that would be for each of you to attune to a sending stone for a 1/day long distance command I guess.
but the HS vehicle core means its also gets its own little mini turret somewhere. which the HS can fire from. So you get a mini force cannon~ Extra points if your a Artilisirst and throw your balistae on it as well whe nit comes to true battle times. (since you can only command one).
Depending on the GM. the HS's innate "take the dodge actiotn" when not commanded otherwise could mean the vehicle itself is more apt to not take damage. If they are generous with the concept

My question is, what should I do on it next?
cast levitate on it, draw it through the air with boots of flying etc.
put flail snail shells on it

I never would've thought if that. Thanks!
Line the inside of the armour with lead foil.
Comfortable seating. Snacks. A dry bar. Air fresheners. You’re going to be in there for a while, make it comfy.
That's a really good thought. I hadn't thought about creature comforts
The older I get the more those matter.
One more thought, teach your homunculous to be the butler/bartender.
I feel the older part. My Dex is dropping by the day lol. I'm going to teach my Steel Defender to wait drinks.
