Greetings! I hope everyone who reads this is having a good day, and I hope your games are going well. I have a bit of a problem with a character build, and I'm looking for any and all advice on this PC. Let's get started.
My DM on Roll20 announced that we will be playing an epic level campaign (we will start at lvl 20, no equipment, and two boons) after we finish our present campaign (which, given we are about to fight Hadar himself, will likely be ending very soon). So, my starting character will be a Lore Mastery Wizard, who I have made a thread about in the Wizard forum. However, as the aforementioned thread states, he's going to end up fighting the party and one way or another be leaving said party. After he leaves, I will need a back-up PC, and my recent playing on the game For Honor has inspired me to play a 5e rendition of the Jormungandr.
One problem... I don't know how to build him!
So, I need help building what is, in essence, a zealous, relentless, hammer swinging, raving lunatic. For some starting guidelines, I was thinking a variant human (feat undecided) and a mix of Cleric, Barbarian, and/or Fighter (all 3 have something that plays a part of the character from the game, but a straight build with no multiclassing would be accepted). Min-maxing is second to the thematic concept, and we are using boons from Obsidian Portal for these characters.
Let me know what you guys think. I put this under Barbarian because that was my original idea, but I can see both Cleric and Fighter potential. Again, the build doesn't need to use all 3 classes, ot doesn't even need to use Barbarian at all! I'm eager to see what everyone has to say.
That's a very interesting concept, I can see a war domain cleric, zealot barbarian, and rune knight fighter for this build
You can use whatever other archetype for these classes but those three are just off the top of my head, rune knight fighter also works for flavor because it plays into the Norse mythology by using the runic magic of giants
I would pick a Yuan-Ti Purblood Zealot Barbarian. I personally think Zealot Barbarian is the most similar to the true Viking Berserker. The Berserker subclass is one you have to be careful with and manage carefully because of exhaustion. Zealots, on the other hand, fight like actual Norse Berserkers in that they fight wildly without concern to their own safety. The For Honor character has a skin condition that makes it look like it has scales so in Dnd why not do one better and just give your Jormungandr actual scales with a Yuan Ti? It fits a Jormungandr devotee who fights savagely for their snake Jotun. The stats are not good for a Barbarian but at level 20 you will be able to easily max strength and constitution out anyway using point-by with two 15s and even easier with rolls. In exchange for a lower dexterity (lower unarmored AC) you get magic resistance, poison immunity, darkvision the ability to speak with snakes and poison spray. I personally think it is everything you need to go out and crush skulls for the great serpent.
Hey Dertinus, TheBearKing1227 is referring to the Norse end of the world scenario. The Word Ragnarok means "Fate of the Gods" or "Twilight of the Gods" and is the climactic final battle between the Norse Gods and the Giants (or Joutun). One of the big parts is Thor fights his nemesis the Midgard Serpent Jormungandr and they both kill one another. In some versions of it all the Gods and the world is destroyed by the Giants who end up burning up everything and that is that. In another versions a new world is born from the ashes. https://norse-mythology.org/tales/ragnarok/

By the name of Ragnarok you mean the old Corean game from the GRAVITY enterprise ??? Or it's related to the Ragnarok movie ???
