I am playing a custom lineage Tempest Cleric with a 1-level fathomless warlock dip and I am wondering between these three feats at 5th level (cleric 4/Warlock 1)
Her Warlock spells are Hellish Rebuke and Armor of Agathys. She has fey touched feat with dissonant whispers (wisdom save)
She is a strength build melee type cleric S16D8C12I8W16Ch14
She is a front liner in plate and shield and likes to use her non-magic warhammer with booming blade and I am thinking of these 3 feats hoping to leverage them for booming blade secondary damage. Here are the pros and cons of each:
Crusher: On the plus side, this would let me move someone when I hit them, which means on their turn they would need to usually move and take the movement damage. The downside is this ties me to a warhammer permanently and there is a good chance we will find other magic weapons. It is a nautical water campaign so things like cutlasses and tridents are the magic weapons we will probably find. Also the +1 strength or con is not going to be of much use
Gift of Gem Dragon: This would let me move enemies when they hit me and it is a great feat in general. On enemies with multiattack this could get secondary damage when they hit me with the first attack, if they fail the save. The +1 bonus to wisdom would pave the way for another half feat at 9th level. Also with this and wrath of the storm and hellish rebuke I can probably damage the enemy every single round if someone hits me. The downside is to get the secondary BB damage I would need then to hit on an early attack AND fail their save against moving. So this is not very reliable for the booming blade damage. Also at 7th level I can move enemies with Wrath of the storm without a save so after this it will only be really the best choice after I run out of those.
Warcaster: The key here is I could cast dissonant whispers and then use booming blade when they move as a reaction. This would be a ton of alpha damage, especially if I upcast dissonant whispers and maximize the thunder damage with channel divinity. Advantage on con saves and somatic with hands full is a nice bonus as well. Also has other uses and spells I could use with it. The downside is I need use spell slots to cast dissonant whispers to reliably use this with booming blade.
Which one do you think you want to tied down the most? Martial Ability? Spellcasting Ability? Or Damage Probability? If you want to be martially astound use Crusher, If you want to be good pretty decent in concentration spells then use warcaster. And then if you want to continuously damage the enemy every turn even if its minimal damage and gain a bonus then take Gift of the Gem Dragon.
Crusher you probably need high strength score to hit more and you have to get in close to be able to do a little bit of damage and the chance to hit with critical damage is not something to really rely on.
Gift Of The Gem Dragon works a little better than crusher but still needs you to get hit and up close and personal do not rely on it but use it for positional advantage.
Warcaster useful for most martial based spellcasters, reaction to cast a spell use this to your advantage.
How strictly does your table follow component rules? Because that’s a big advantage to warcaster that helps you avoid juggling.
We do follow it, but usually I mitigate it by not using spells with somatic components unless they also have a material component (where I can use my shield as holy symbol)
