I have a small question. This will be more for Roleplay. My DM asked me if id be willing to make a character that is more a teacher/trainer role for the other characters in the group and to have this be a PC. So I would play this character as a reoccuring character. On top of my own. I am down to do this for sure.
The reason for the title monk/paladin we thought would fit the character perfectly. We wanted him to have some anime tropes you see in this role too. Which we can figure out backstory and tropes. But ill admit I'm open to ideas for sure. The more the better to try and see what could stick.
The team is at lv 9. We thought we could place this PC at lv 15
However my main questions would be if I place this character at lv 15
What would be the multiclass options to mix with the most. Like should the split be for now like 8 and 7? Or is there a different number
Def open to test different subclass mixes as well. If anyone has ideas. Again this is just a Roleplay character. If he does get put into battle it could be a little MAD on stats. And the DM is okay if I do the stats as a manual/roll to try and get a few high ones do to MAD stats.
If anyone has ideas doesn't matter what they are. Just down to hear everyone out
Well, the big problem, as you observe, is how MAD it would be. By RAW, you’d need a 13 in str, DEX, wis and cha. And since everyone wants a good con, that’s a lot of high scores. And multiclassing will usually make you miss out on an asi somewhere in the mix, and that’s not something you can really afford.
My question is, what parts do you want from each of the classes? Because my first thought is to say, if this is meant to be an NPC, is just build it as such, where you don’t have to follow PC rules. Maybe just build a level 15 monk, and say it can smite, or whatever you want from the paladin side.
Or build a level 15 dex pally who uses unarmed strikes. And just say you can use dex as your attack stat.
But if you really want to build as a PC, I’d say get to 6 pally for your aura, at least. Then look at what powers you get and miss as a result of your level split.
One thing that would help would be to take the 2014 Human “species” to get +1 in all your stats. Of course, this is outdated content not meant for 2024, and I know how attached women people are to their race/species. Of course if you are just making your own stats as you said, I guess don’t worry about it.
If you’re open to older content, I’d recommend starting with Paladin and the Kensei Monk for 4 levels. It doesn’t really give you anything, but it’s the easiest to pull off. 16, 13, 14, 9, 13, 14.
If you are willing to dump constitution but want to smite better as a monk, try Open Hand 5+/Redemption 4. 13, 16, 10, 9, 16, 13.
Honestly though, I think the best answer is simply not to do it and go straight Monk or straight Paladin.

Which rules are you using? 14 or 24?
Just tell your DM "No, this is a terrible idea."
